I am curious about what your ideas are of the perfect antler. Here are some of mine. The first photos are of a buck my father killed years ago near Birdseye, Montana. It is not the largest buck in the world, but when I think of what a perfect antler would look like, this is it. It sucks that the back two tines are broken off. To give you a perspective of its size, it is only 22 inches wide, but (if the back matched) it would score around 165 net. I think the shape of the antlers/tines on this buck is perfect. There is a lot of curvature, but it is all uniform. There is almost not even a nub that is non-typical. It has goodmass, and it holds it throughout the length of the tines. I really love the shape of this set of antlers.
Just for fun, here is the story on the hunt: He was 16 at the time (about 1962). He had hunted and had been shooting at (and missing) does all day. He told me he had 11 bullets at the beginning of the day and only had one left by the evening. As he crossed a barbed-wire fence, it squeaked real bad and this guy stuck his head up about 200 yards away down the fence line. He made his last bullet count.
This second antler is a shed I found a number of years ago near York, MT. Again, it is a small antler, but the shape is awesome. I only found one side of this deer, but I doubt he was more than about 15 inches wide. It is old and chalky, but I liked the look of it enough to pack it out of the hole I was in. The broken back tine was still intact when I found it, and added another 3 inches or so, but it has since broken off. I love the way the main beam comes around so much.
So in my book if there were a set of "perfect antlers" they would be shaped like either of these bucks (but would score about 230 net B&C).
I would never turn down a big nasty non-typical, but for some reason, I have always had a soft spot for a good four point with browtines.
So, does anybody else out there have opinions about(or pictures of) a perfect antler(s)?
Enjoy the summer,

P.S. I have been avoiding this site for about two months because I waste too much time at work here. I decided to look again today for about "5 minutes", and here I am 1 1/2 hours later. Guess I will be working late again.
