Packing clinic

I was at a Backcountry horseman mule and horse packing clinic this Saturday and it had a few new things and refirmed a few old things, But any of you who are getting into packing in on horses should ask your local BCH chapter for a clinic and they will gladly put one on. It was a fun day, Thanks guys.

What did they go over with you? It always good to see other guy's methods and learn a few new tricks. I remember my first packing trip about 20 years ago. It was up in the San Gorgonio wilderness. We just tied unballanced bags and 1/2 bales of hay on our riding saddles. All I needed was an old lady on a rocking chair on top of my outfitt. We spent 7 hours going over 10,000 foot ridge down into Mine Shaft Flats. As soon as we got there my friend shot a buck and spooked our hourses which promptly headed back up the trail towards the truck scatterin our gear all over the mountain. I chased them for 2 miles back over 10,000 foot ridge before some back packers caught them. It was getting dark and I was wearing a T shirt. We had to search all over for our gear all the while I was pucking from exhaustion. I spent the night shivering and puking. We got up the next morning and I was still too sick to hunt so we packed off the hill. That was one heck of a trip but after that I was addicted. I've spent the last 20 years buyin gear and learning. It's the only way to hunt in my opinion.
