I'm sick of trying to find elk in Utah. I would really like to look into an out of state hunt for elk that wouldn't be too tough to draw and to harvest a rag horn.
I have no idea where to start. Can anybody help me out with some out of state units in Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, or possibly Colorado??? I want to try and keep it as cheap as possible and as close to Utah as possible. I just want to get out of Utah and explore some new country and wildlife.
I would appreciate any help at all,
Thanks,
Matt

Southeast Idaho has some good otc elk units. Colorado has tons of them. I have hunted/guided in the San Juan National Forest in southwest Colorado, there are a lot of elk in that country.

Thanks Pro.
I have heard that there are a few good places to access Idaho from the Utah side on the East side of Bear Lake. My friend hunted the North Cache unit for LE bull this year and they were hunting up there and saw tons of bulls on the Idaho side.
Do they sell over the counter tags for that area? What's the cost?

You should look around Crotez colorado last time i drove thru there in April there was a small herd scattered all over the side of the highway. lol

Elk Hunting no matter where you go is difficult. With most states doing the same type of lottery system, odds are stacked against you if you don't have points..

General Season here in Utah is hit and miss, however, all states share the ebs and flows of hunting, some years are good and other years aren't so good. My advice... for what it's worth. Pick a state and get into the draw, build your points.

I like reading the Hunt'n Fool Magazine, and Eastman's. Both of these give a pretty good breakdown on the states, success, and what it takes to draw a tag. Good Read, Good Advice from the Pro's.

I share the frustration you have, it's a hard knocks world when it comes to hunting, especially Elk. These animals are making great headway in alot of states, and thus the popularity of hunting big bulls is increased.

Best of luck on whatever you decide to do.

All I know is don't bother applying for AZ elk. It's to expensive and to hard to get drawn. CO would definately be my first choice.

No Better place than colorado. $500 bucks plenty of elk 360,000 elk in the state. We go every year and whack a couple rag horns.
