How Many Bucks?

This is kind of a quiet time of the year, so it might be the time to ask......

In the year or so that I've been at MM, I haven't seen this question asked before.

How many bucks total have you taken in your lifetime (so far)?

I totally understand that the number of bucks taken doesn't necessarily mean much, except perhaps an indication of how many years one has been hunting. And it most certainly is not a measure of the quality of the hunt to a lot of hunters. And I also understand that a lot of you have passed up a lot of bucks over the years that you could have killed. I just thought it might be a fun question!

Here are my "numbers":
25 bucks total. 22 blacktails and 3 mule deer. My 3 mule deer were taken in Idaho, Wyoming and Utah.
I shot my first buck in 1964, so that says something of my age:)
I have kept every "rack" over the years so that's how I know how many.

I hope no one is offended by the question!

Steve
Oh, I almost forgot.......turtles=0

Thinking back I did shoot one whitetail buck but it was a good one 28 inches wide. That was up in Montana....Devlin

Devlin,
125.....that's awesome! Lest some people forget, in California we are allowed two bucks per year in some zones.

Steve

AH!!!

THE COVETED AREA 10!!!

MAN I'VE SEEN SOME NICE BUCK TORTISES IN AREA 10!!!

THE ONLY bobcat WONDERING IF eelgrass WILL GET BUCK FEVER THIS FALL???REMEMBER,I'M AVAILABLE FOR TRIGGERMAN PURPOSES ONLY!!!

I can't say for sure, but its around 36 to 40 bucks in my lifetime. Out of that number 12 are mule deer and the rest are Northern California Blacktails.

5 bucks and 3 elk. My first one came in 1998 a small 2x3 with "little mass" but i'm only 21 so I hope to keep adding more and bigger bucks to my list!

5 bucks for me. All with a bow. I have never carried a rifle on the deer hunt. I've killed 1 spike bull with a gun and 1 cow with my bow.
I'm 25 so I have lots of hunting left.

Turkeys 5

Javelina 11

Coues Deer 4

Mule Deer 5

Elk 4 bulls

Antelope 1

Mt. Lion 1

Black Bear 1

Total = 32 animals

I haven't been keeping count but here is a good estimate:

40-50 muley's (mostly bucks)
15-20 bull elk

Started hunting big game in 1985. Since then I have harvested five mule deer bucks, one buck antelope, one bull moose and three bull elk.

I am a little embarrased now that I add it up.
I've killed:
7 Muley does (1 bow, 6 rifle)
7 Muley 2 points (2 bow, 1 muzzleloader, 4 rifle)
1 Muley 3 point (rifle)
1 Muley 4 point (rifle)
1 Whitetail 3 point(bow)
1 Elk (spike w/bow)

I am 33 years old.

-Soup

P.S. I have one friend that when we get into this "who is the best hunter" debate, he always starts adding up bucks/bulls that he shot and lost and then found 2 months later after bears and coyotes had had their way with them. I have unfortunately lost game also, but all of the above were retrieved and eaten.
Anybody else have friends like that?

Have kind of lost track the last few years but I should be between 30-40 bucks. 5 or 6 of them were whiteys, the rest were muleys.
069729.gif

18 mulies and 3 whities. Include the elk, lope and 2 turkeys I'm around the 40 Biggame animal kill mark total.

3 whitetails (2 with my bow) over 30 years of hunting public land in PA. I've passed on a handfull of easy shots including one bigger than any I've ever shot.

1 Caribou, rifle
1 mulie, bow

Piker,
Not very smart in PA

Andyman, 30-50 a year, you had me worried there for a minute LOL

PC, no Aardvark??????? Don't tell me you get Aardvark fever!(It's like buck fever, only worse). Aardvark fever has ruined more than a few good men.......

Piker, welcome! I've heard hunting on public land in PA is really tough. Lots of hunters out there.

Steve

I have 11 Antelope buck (not counting does), 8 muley bucks, and 3 elk. Life in Wyoming is good!!

Good Hunting!!

I've run out of fingers and toes, so we're in trouble with the math. I do know that my streak is at least one buck deer usually 3 point or better 22 years in a row.

Roughly 2 dozen, majority mulies, several blacktails and a couple of whities. 10 big game species and around 40 big game animals total. Hoping to add a couple new species this year!

Buck deer total was the question:

Columbian blacktail: 15

sitka blacktail: 1

Coues whitetail: 1

Rocky Muley's: 6

Desert Muley: 1

Northern Whitetail: 3

Too many deer too remember. More then 20blacktail bucks over 20' several mule deer over 30" Two whitetail with over 9" eyeguards. I guess I have been very lucky to have hunted in some good spots, but I have also hunted very hard.Have 17 B.&C. animals 15 different species, hope to add a few more.

6 Muleys, best one with a bow, the rest with rifle

7 Eastern Whitetails, best one with a bow, only one with rifle.

5 Couse Whitetails, none with the bow, Maybe this year!!!!

I''ve taken 15 Muley's from unit 2a and b in NM most before they went to the draw system for those units.

Roughly 10 muley's from unit 74 and 75 in Colorado .

No idea how many Texas whitetail total but a good honest guess would be around 40/45 bucks and doe's.

Biggest muley was a 6x6 with a 33 in spread. Biggest whitetail was a 14 point in Texas. Have several 4x4's and 5x5's in Nm and Co.

Two coues here in AZ. Both rather small.

bigmoosie, 17 B&C animals. That is quite an accomplishment to say the least!

There are some very serious hunters around here. More than I realized for sure.

Steve

I agree with Steve.
17 Bookers??
Wow!
That's a VERY impressive stat Big Moosie!
Have you been fishing this summer?
How is the Kenai this year?
HH

32 - Muley bucks (mostly rifle and bow, a few smokepole and a couple pistol)

4 - Bull elk (3 rifle, 1 bow)

1 - Lope (rifle)

1 - Moose (bow)

Smokepole

I lost count on deer after the first dozen bucks. I have been eating my tag a whole lot lately though, havent shot a buck for 3 years. Not sure on the Elk either, I remember 5 archery bulls and several with a rifle, only 1 Lope. Later, BIGBONE

Fishing is terrible right now on the Kenai, our F&G has opened Cook Inlet up to sockeye fishing for the commercial fleet every time they do this our fishing is terrible. They say the fleet doesn't get the kings but it does. They opened it up for bait 10days early but it hasn't made much of a difference. Also until July 1St. we have a slot limit, cant keep a fish between 44-55" had to release a 55lb. fish the other day. Should be good a little later as we have had record runs in most rivers up here so far this year.

3 muley bucks
1 cow elk
1 antelope buck
and if we count shed antlers i think im up around 500 in the last few years....and another 500 or so for my dad
coyotes, quail, dove, turkey, chukar, grouse, ducks, geese, fox, ground squirells, badgers, rock chucks,snakes....just a bunch of little stuff here and there
Hope to add a few monster bucks to my wall
At 20 I think I still have a few years to do it
YB

Bigmoosie,
Have you ever been to the Wildlife Museum in Ninilchick? It's on the left as you go to Homer. For those of you who fish the Kenai it is a must see!

We stopped last year and were blown away. There are literally hundreds of mounted animals from all over the world. A lot of full bodied mounts. You can spend hours in there. I traveled all the way to Alaska to see a mounted Zebra. LOL There are some BIG whitetails and mule deer also.

Steve

Are we talking legally?? Just Kidding.

I started hunting back in 1996, with a two year hiatus from 97-99 while I was out of the country.

Mule Deer---5
Elk---3
Squirrles, rabbits, and prarie dogs----Too many to count!

Yes the museum is really neat. There are a lot of pretty serious hunters around here there are at least 6 taxidermists around here quite a few for a total local population of around 20,000. Was at a local taxidermist the oyher day had a replica scull of a saber tooth from the La Brea tar pits kind of neat.

Ron,
If you should ever get up to Fairbanks, go to the Alaska Univ. and look at the Museaum there. The wife and I went through it back in 1984 and there was a set of tusks from a Wooly Mammoth from the Ice Age, pretty impressive.

My number are low, but they go in a wide range...

I've taken 6 Bucks since I've started hunting from Spikers to a big 3 Point, I have yet to harvet a 4 point and I plan on holding off until I get my chance. I've shot 2 spikes, 3 2 points and 1 3point... still waiting for the big 4.

My younger years brought buck fever, and with my Dad and Grandpa took my first spike... 14 yeas old, second year same scenario it was the last year that Grandpa attended deer camp, he died shortly after the season closed. But I share the memory of 15 and shooting my second spike..

Years to follow were drought years for me. I passed on little bucks hoping to get a big one...

Upon returning from my LDS Mission in 2000, I hunted the 01 season in Central Utah. The summer I spent scouting and located 7 bucks shacked up together, on opening morning with much anticipation I climed to my vantage point, saw the deer, shot the 3 point and was thrilled that I finally got a wall hanger. He's unique long back tines with decent front forks.. 1 shot at 350 with the 7mm and he was mine.

Since then I have shot 3 2 points that were decent, nothing exciting....

But I am still waiting for my first 4 point... Hopefully fall 05 brings the memories of deer camp, the spirit of Grand Dad, and lots of fun...

I've got 3 muley bucks and 1 buck antelope. My best buck was a 26 inch 4x4. That was my second buck. My first buck was a little 3x3. I am only 16 too.

younghunter22

Lost count. Probably around 30. But had a good streak going of over 10 years without a skunk. It was a bummer to not have any meat in the freezer when I ate that tag. But started a new streak on 3 years in a row now. Some years shot 2 or 3. Biggest 28" 180+ Muley. but those little ones sure taste good

Why ask such complicated questions? Ya know I don't know how many I have killed. I don't even know if I know how to tell a Buck from a Doe Jack Rabbit or Snowshoe for that matter. But for deer now that is a tough one. Hunted all over gods creation and part of Idaho. Killed some dandys and some got away I think my first was in 72. One such dandy was a spike. He fit really nice in my day pack.
Rut

I'd have to guess somewhere around 35 - 40 whitetail bucks and 5 mulie bucks. Got the mulies in Wyoming, Colorado, 2 in New Mexico and in Saskatchewan on a reservation. 1st Whitetail was 1978.

DaleJr,
You are the one complaining that your modem can't handle pics of less that 200 inchers. Your time is too precious to view bucks of smaller sizes. Ifn you want to see more pics of some of the 30+ deer I've killed, just ask. Cause I'll gladly some of them up for ya. Here's some various ones for ya.

Where have I ever made fun of anyones buck. I make fun of you, but if you actually stopped talking out of your a$$ and posted up some success pics of yours you'd see that many of us would congratulate you. I've been hunting since I was 10. Seen many a spike and forkey drop by my bullets. I told ya I was a meat hunter didn't I????

As for your BS about no one posting pics, go back over the thread. Founder posted up his 200 inchers before you ever logged on. And what makes you sooo special that we need to cater this site only to you. Don't see any others whining about the numbers or pics posted.

But your days are numbered here. You sure made a lot of new friends on this site now didn't ya. I suppose you can go back to your Realtight buddies and tell them how you show us up in your short stay here.

Blueoak.... first off, happy fourth of July. I will always think of you on the 4th. Hope you have a good stock of m-80's and bottle rockets, the a zone is fast approaching (wink wink....)

That leads me to my point, you said 2.3 deer, is that .3 whats left when the 1/4 stick lands too close when you flush 'em out? Sure makes for an easy drag...

I just breaking your Kali nuts, have a good year my friend, can't wait to hear some new stories....

Ha! good one. Fire danger is a little to high in the A-zone for my muley tactics. Had a good fourth and didn't light one fuse! Good to hear from you. Dave

good for you boy! just remember how blessed you are to be able to hunt all those animals at 16 ... good luck

That mountain has more people on it then a golf course! and you should probably be bilingual if you know what i mean!

I've worked hard and was very fortunate to have a group of old timers to teach me the ways of the blacktail . can't real say the numbers but I'am very fortunate to have harvested 5 blacktails over 20" and a good hand full over 18"the wideest being 26"(all in the B.C. lines)25 or so mulies , dozen elk, no real monsters (still try'in) A 400LB plus wildhog ,muzz. record book antelope and a hole lot of good memorys... I like too share and help others , especially new to the sport. good luck all.

Come on ya little sissy, lets see all these big bucks that you've killed and prove to us that we are lead astray. All I hear is WAA WAA WAA BLAA BLAA BLAA from a wittle wee wanabe. :)

Jakstr,
Wannabe is just one of those newbie trolls that keeps kickin' around this site the last few weeks. He has been here under may names, DaleJr, BCTWIRP, WITTLE WEE WANNABE to name a few. He's here for one reason and one reason only, TO PROVE WHAT A WANNABE he really is. Don't worry bout no of his garbage. And Welcome to the site By the Way. :)
