I DID IT!!!

Yesterday I took the plunge and ordered Kifaru's 4-man ultralite tipi and stove. I even did it with my wife's blessing! Of course she got her new linoleum. A good trade I think. It should be in by the end of next month. Plenty of time to check it out before the New Mexico Coues hunt. I'll be backpacking in style. Kifaru equipment is tough to beat.

Congrats. I have looked at the pictures of that, but my wife is still steaming about the bino's and hunts this year, so I am going to wait for any other purchases till next year. What hunt date are you going for NM coues, and when do you elk hunt in NM????? hope all is well.....Allen........

My New Mexico Coues hunt is Nov. 13-17th. I'm not hunting elk in New Mexico this year. I'm going over there next weekend with the packgoats and do a little scouting.

Scott

Sounds great. Hope it all works out for you this year. Any word on your Wyoming trip? Hope you can make it.

Good luck scouting this weekend. Let us know how it goes!

Take care!

Vinni, I will be hunting on an over the counter license. I'll be in the Mule Creek, Glenwood and Cliff area. I hunted last year in unit 26 down by Plyas and found some whitetail. I haven't ever hunted unit 27.

good luck..hope u ll get something...let us know how it goes...let me know if u see any pigs.. i have feb tag for southwest for pig...

did u see any pigs plyas? and any buck last year unit 26?

vinihunt

where u from?

im in santa fe, nm

Thanks Vinni. Yes I did see a herd of Javelina last year in unit 26. We killed two 4 point muleys there also.

Sniper,

How heavy is your pack going to be now? I have seen their products, but don't remember the weight. It seems that it would be much too heavy for a pack - or am I drunk?

Good Luck in NM on your hunt.

Quaily, the tipi and stove weigh in at 8 lbs. 4 lbs 11 oz. for the tipi and 3 lbs 6 oz. for the stove. That is a lot of weight, but not that much considering it will sleep 4. Most of the time I intend to have the goats packing it. But occaisionally I may be carrying it in my pack. With all of my optics and gear I'm pretty well loaded. I'm afraid to put it on the scales. I'm heading in with the goats on Friday to pack in some water and check the area out up close.

Scott

HOPE U WILL BRING THE CAMERA TO TAKE SOME PICTURES OF THE GOATS AND THE WILDERNESS....WHILE SCOUT....GOOD LUCK

VINIHUNT

JDBuck1

Good to see ya here!!

I just got back from X12- passed some nice bucks, ended up empty on the last day. Oh Well, can't win em all.

How are the animals doing up there??

LAST EDITED ON Oct-08-02 AT 09:46AM (MST)[p]WE SHOULD BE IN EXCELLENT SHAPE MACHO MAN. PLENTY OF GAME ALONG WITH COOL CRISP WEATHER. THIS COULD BE YOUR YEAR FOR THAT MONSTER MULEY. FRANCO CHUTE HAS PLENTY OF ELK ACTIVITY. SETTING UP CAMP TOMORROW. TAKING JDMCNIGHT OUT SAT. MORNING IN SNOWSLIDE TO HOPEFULLY FILL AN ELK TAG FOR HIM. THE BULLS ARE BUGELING BIG TIME AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH OUR OPENER. TALK SOON JD

JD: the wyoming trip was great, I got to watch my son Travis bag his first big game animal, an antelope doe. He made a perfect shot behind the front shoulder at 150 yards. For Scott and I, we shot a couple decent antelope and a couple younger bucks 3x3 & 4x4 but didnt have a really productive place to kill a big one. I glassed my butt off and only saw one big muley. I saw a couple book antelope, but naturally they were on private property. Glad to hear your Elk hunts are going good...... Allen...........................

RIGHT ON ALLEN ! GOOD TO HEAR YOU HAD A SUCCSESSFUL HUNT ESPECIALLY YOUR SON BAGGING HIS FIRST BIG GAME ANIMAL. THAT IS PRICELESS MAN. YOU SHOULD POST HIS PIC. I WILL BE HEADING TO AZ ON THE 7TH OF NOV. I AM REALLY PUMPED ABOUT THIS COUES HUNT. YOU AND SCOTT SHOULD CONSIDER COLORADO ELK NEXT YEAR. TALK LATER, JD

Allen, congrats on the hunt. I've been emailing Scott G. and he filled me in on some of the details. He's coming over here to my part of the state to hunt javelina with a bow in January.

JD, goodluck on the coues scouting trip. I was up this weekend for a day and saw 6 muley bucks 3 coues bucks and 2 bears. We tried to get this 12 year old girl on one of the whitetail bucks. This buck was only about 14 inches wide but his main beams were so long that they overlapped by 3 inches in the front and his G-2's were an estimated 10 inches. A very nice buck but we were never able to get on him close enough for a shot.

I may be heading into New Mexico in 2 weeks for another scouting trip. I'll make sure and check the weather first though, I don't need to go through what Tommy went through.

I talked recently with the guy working on Duwane's (sent him some more Coues photos) and it's still going to be a little bit before the book is ready. It'll be worth the wait.

SCOTT

The wyom. thing was kinda hard to switch gears and figure out where public land was and get in and hunt with limited time, so I guess we did o.k. considering. As for the book, I am looking forward to it, Tony should be real close and the book should sell real good. The coues season is sneaking up on me, I am trying to get one more scouting trip in before the early hunt starts Oct. 25th. JD: hope you shoot a big one this year and Scott, I hope Tommy can help you pack out yours........Allen

Despite the obsticales Allen and I faced, we had a great time; the company definately made the trip worth while. WE'll just have to do more research for next year's Wyoming trip. I talked to a G&F officer for quite sometime after I got back, and he was more then helpful.

Allen, I'm offering my hopefully growing skills as a glasser to you in your next scouting adventure. Let me know if you want a companion.

Scott- I put in for pig and am defiantely looking foward to heading your way in a couple months. I still might be able to head your way for a quick scouting trip if you'd like. We'll keep in touch about that.

I can't wait for the book to come out. I got my noticifation letter and I'm going to get on the waiting list.

Good luck to all...

JD...which Scott were you refering too??? I'd be interested in elk in CO next year, I beleive Allen would also. Let me know. Thanks...

P-DUB ALL THREE OF YA ARE WELCOME MY WAY. I DID THINK ALLEN WAS IN WYOMING WITH SCOTT A.

ALLEN I PLAN ON HEADING TO AZ EARLY,LIKE ON THE 7TH OR SO. WHICH SEASON WERE YOU HUNTING AGAIN IN 36C ? THOUGHT MAYBE WE MIGHT HOOKUP WHILE I WAS DOWN THERE AND BUY YOU A BEER.

SCOTT A, THATS GREAT TO HEAR YOU ARE INVOLVED WITH THE YOUTHS. ESPECIALLY A YOUNG GIRL HUNTER. THATS AWESOME. WISHED IT WOULD HAVE WORKED OUT FOR HER. THE SCOUTING TRIPS HAVE BEEN A SUCCESS FOR YOU GOOD TO HEAR. ITS GOING TO BE A GREAT YEAR. I AM CASING ELK FOR THE NEXT 2 WEEKS. I WILL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED.
LATER JD

I enjoy taking kids out hunting, my 13 old had taken 2 javelina, 1 mule deer, 1 coues buck and 1 black bear at age 12!!!

When I get the photos of the other young hunter in our camp I'll post it here. It was a real brute.

Scott

I thought I would give y'all an update on the nice Coues buck that I saw last weekend. I was out this morning and relocated him. He has shed his velvet since last weekend and still looks as big as ever. Extremely long G-2's and mainbeams that overlapp a good a 3 inches in the front. I watched him show some agression (Ears back and tail out)toward a 3x3 mule deer buck then go over the ridge to bed. I didn't get a better look than I did a week ago but will keep trying.

Scott

Sounds like an awesome buck. I wish you luck in getting him.
Keep us updated!

JD: I hunt the 8th of Nov. When you say you will be down early, what hunt do you have? Do you need a place to stay? I can fix up the back bedroom and you would have a private shower, bed etc.... You just would have to fight the kids off, they like visitors. anyway, send me a note and we will hook up...... Allen Taylor......

with a sniper serial killer on the loose in D.C. your name and post title sounds like a confession. I thought for sure this would be about that and I was about to ream whatever sick bastard would even kid around about something like that. I am gald to see that you are just an innocent poster with no mal-intentions (especially since this was posted a long time ago). be careful what you say in the future with a name like sniper we don't need any more references to hunting or responsible firearms owners with sickos like this guy.

Jeremy, this is Scott Adams alias Sniper. I'm glad you brought that to my attention. It never even dawned on me the connection between my handle and that sicko or sickos back east murdering people in cold blood. I assure you that I'm just as enraged and saddened about it as you are. When taken in light of what is going on, the title to my post is really "inappropriate". I've used the "sniper" handle for a few years now and it just describes the way I hunt using the spot and stalk method. Now I am wondering if maybe I should change it. Anyway thank you for bringing it to my attention and I'll certainly be more careful now with what's happening at the present.
Scott Adams

ALLEN, I APPRECIATE THE OFFER ! MIGHT TAKE YOU UP ON THAT.MY HUNT IS ALSO THE 8TH. I HAVE TWO BUDDIES WHO ARE HUNTING THE LATE SEASON HERE IN COLORADO THEN HEADED TO UNIT 33 FOR COUES. I AM HEADED TO 32. IF WE HEAD DOWN AT THE SAME TIME I WILL PROBABLY CAMP WITH THEM IN 33.NEVER THE LESS IF I END UP IN AZ AROUND THE 6TH WE OUGHT TO MEET AND HAVE A BEER AND TALK A LITTLE HUNTIN.

SCOTT A, HOPE TO SEE THAT COUES POSTED HERE IT THE NOT SO DISTANT FUTURE. LOOK FORWARD TO THE YOUNGSTERS PICS.

LATER JD

JD: I am scouting one last time this weekend. For the hunt, I am leaving thursday the 7th mid day and setting up a simple camp. I plan on being there through monday then driving back monday night. If your buddies need any help on 33, have them call Duwane Adams 520-385-4995, that unit is right in his back yard and he definitely knows the area. Maybe we can hook up in Tucson during the hunt, or depending on how early you get down here, maybe during the week. Take care, Allen Taylor......

JD- Thanks for the offer. I just might call you about that.

I'm looking foward to playing second fiddle on Allen's scouting trip Sat. I hope we get some good things accomplished while we're there.

I plan on helping Allen on his 36C hunt in Nov, during the weekend thou. My job has me strapped pretty tight this time of year. Hopefully I can break away for a couple weekends to chase deer with a string and stick and quial too!

We'll talk later and good luck in 33! It's a good unit from what I hear. I used to hunt it, but that was a LONG time ago. Where I hunted is mostly houses now! Very sad. I found my one and only coues shed in 33, a nice 3 pointers with eyeguard.

Take care,

Scott...P-DUB
