I killed this buck a few years back by Corona, NM. It was during the September muzzleloader hunt. I jumped this buck out of his bed at about 2:30 in the afternoon (it was about 90 degrees), and shot him at about 15 yards. I don't know who was more startled, me or the deer. I dang near missed him!!!(note the shot placement :)) Anyway, not a giant buck, but I'm pretty proud of him.
We do still talk about mule deer here, don't we ;-)

Good story nmtaxi. Nice buck. Doesn't look like you fellows down south get much time to get the meat to a cool place. EH.

Nice buck. Was this blm, or private? If private, which ranch? We have leased several ranches in the Corona area in the past. Just curious.

Nice looking buck NM, congrats on a velvet beauty.

Thanks guys. I killed the buck on state land. You can probably figure out where from there ;-). That early muzzle season was a great hunt. It became a lot tougher when the moved the season into mid october.

good job, nmt....thanks for the pic..shot placement?...hey, he's down ain't he?

We hunted the Corona area for many years, but do not anymore. Here are two bucks I took out of that area...

nmtaxi , thats a beautiful deer , I shot my first muley with a bow there in 97 , about 300 yards south of the cattle gaurd as you enter and head into Red Cloud . I actually drew 38 again this year for bow , I hope the deer numbers are the way they were a few years back , thats such a fun unit with so many deer . Thanks for sharing...NMHUNTNUTT

I'm sure I'll never see a buck with those kind of bases again:) I had the thick horned buck mounted and it was finished this week. I was told it turned out really well ( it is in another state ) I'll post pics as soon as I see it.
