I would like to fix this ol rack of mine. It fell and broke on the floor one night when a couple of my friends were boozed up and wrestling. I laughed at the time (cause I too was boozed and it wasn't one of them famous "200" bucks, not that I have one...). Well anyways have any of you jokers around here ever had to fix one of your racks? How'd it turn out. I had a good time getting this buck and wouldn't mind fixin the little bugger. Try to post some pics of the results. If you don't have pics just knowledge of how to fix it that's cool too no worries.

Pretty easy repair. I'll usually put a drywall screw into the base of each antler through the bottom of the skull plate, then fill the brain cavity with bondo. The screws just help keep it together.

The bondo is a good idea.
I wonder if you could just JB Weld the bone together?
Any other taxidermists with pointers?

(Not in any way, shape, or form implying I am one...just want to get this skull plate back together)

Here's one that works quite well for me.
Drill a couple of holes on each side of the skull about 1/4 inch from the crack. Do this in two or three places. Take some wire and feed it through the holes and twist it together on the bottom side. This will hold the two sides together tight. Then fill the bottom side of the skull with bondo like NMTaxi said.

Thanks for the help. Next tuesday I'll try the drywall screws and bondo up at a friends body shop. HH I don't think silicone and plastic will work...

thanks guys

Hey if you haven't fixed that rack yet, try the stitch method ( already suggested) if you just bondo. sooner or later the bondo will crack and seperate , the inside of the skull cap doesn't allow a good bond. I stitch on mule deer usally 4 times then epoxy well and then bondo... then she's bullet proof. I specialize in taxidermy restoration. its real easy . I hope this helps jack- sheridan creek taxidermy
