When should a guy start looking for bucks? If you spot a big one holed up high, or a bachelor bunch now (July), will they be around in 6-8 weeks? When do you high country guys start looking?

If I had the time I would start in January.

Kidding aside, we usually don't start until the last week of July or the first week of August. I know that the high country here on the Wasatch this year was pummelled with snow. My deer camp at 9200 feet is still under snow. This year we probably won't see those high country bucks hit their summer range untill the first week of August.

Does anyone know if the peaks are free of snow in the Greys area?
Or were they inundated with snow as well?

Here in Northeast Nevada we still have snow up on the highest peaks. The low country is great but I can't wait to get up high. Got the horses ready just waiting on the snow to melt. fatrooster.

I was out last week in central BC around 7-10,000 ft. We saw quite a few bucks and I know they will be in this area until mid-October.

I normally start hitting the highcountry in mid July. Depending on snow loads, the bucks can get there earlier but but normally their antlers aren't developed enough to really waiste much time and effort on them. By mid July most bucks are developed enough to know which ones are going to be KEEPERS and which ones are just Dinks.
