Is Region K - OK?

My dad wound up with a Unit 27 moose tag, so we tossed our names in for deer to go with it. Well we drew a few deer tags and I'm trying to narrow down the deer area a little, think I have the moose researched pretty well.

Units 101 and 102 are limited entry, so they're out. A buddy hunted elk in 131 last year and I don't think he even saw a deer the whole trip? Unit's 132 and 133 appear to be largely private, making it tougher for a guy to "do it yourself".

That leaves 134 and 168 which appear to have lots of public land and pretty good access (a little too good?). I understand the Crawford Mtns on the UT side is a pretty sought after tag, but figured they might get pounded during the WY general season?

The country NE of Woodruff Narrows Reservoir looks pretty good, as does the stuff SW of Elk Mountain? Plan on scouting it in a couple weeks to further narrow it down.

Any opinions on my thought process or am I all screwed up? Appreciate any ideas. You can PM me if you'd rather.

Thanks.

Where you from? Not sure where the moose units are, but I saw a dandy bull while hunting there last year. Might be able help you on the deer as well.

The moose unit is basically Evanston to Mt. View and then south to the border. Mostly private land, but a couple decent blocks of public on the border. I had heard it wasn't that great for deer and that most of the deer there were on the private, but don't know that for sure.

We're out of Vancouver, WA, but plan on two or three trips over to scout and hunt and try to figure things out. Not expecting a free lunch, we're willing to work for it. Heck, we just like to hunt!

Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks again!

168 is largely private, and the landowners are going to begin a lock down this year.
Most of 134 is also private, and will also be part of the same lock down. Bottom line, know where you go before you apply!
Anyways good luck!

I along with 2 others have also drawn a tag for Region K.
I have to admit I relied on one of the guys to pick a spot to apply for and he has done well in the past but I have concerns about this region. We did go here 1 time before and hunted just outside of Evanston on I believe Medicine Butte--saw few deer some smallish bucks but bad part was the IDIOTS driving around all shooting from their vehicles like a bunch of morons-way too many people there. I am glad to hike a ways but I not sure where to look--coming from South Carolina and as such I may have not have much time to scout. I am not looking for a monster, just decent 3x3 or 4x4 and and a good experience without yahoos shooting at everything that moves.

I appreciate any ideas on where to look for a good experience a maybe a decent buck to boot.

Thanks

Joe

They will have the new Walk-In-management areas on the Wyo. website the 12th-today sometime.

There are a few areas that are in this program. Get out and hunt and ya will have a decent hunt. Most of these area's are NO ATV's or vehicles.
Read thru each one listed for certain restrictions. Like one last year had a seperate drawing for hunting deer by splitting the season in 1/2 for guys to hunt on it.

This program is where your Access Yes donations go....... I hope all non-res. put some $$ extra on the applications....

YELEM knows the area GREAT.
