I need some advice on where to go to get a decent buck in one of these units. This is my first year hunting in CO and I am looking for some info on where to start. Any advice would be great. Are there decent bucks in this unit? I have a first rifle combined tag (oct 22). Thanks in advance.

yes...by the way did you have points or just 0 points and 1st choice? I tried 2nd choice and didnt draw. I believe the tag numbers were cut for these units this year. I had a great time with this tag last year during 4th rifle season. These units do get pounded is some localized areas so I would stick to doing some hiking and getting away from roads. I spent all my time between Kremmling and Hot Sulphur Springs on BlM and SWA's (northwest side of unit 28). I saw lots of deer everyday (4 solid days) and know a 197 buck was taken where I was hunting (great story). I did scout last year during the opening day of 2nd rifle (your tag) and it seemed the pressure wasnt as heavy as the opener of 4th in this particular area.
There is another MM member that hunted on this tag last year and filled it, hopefully he'll respond to you if he is around.
What is a decent buck?
I posted pictures of the buck i shot last year...I wonder if we could find it.

Nasty mid-winter cold snap with a thermal inversion kept temps way low for too long last winter. combined with a substantial roadkill problem on Hwy 40 and deeper than usual snow in the Kremmling are a few factors that gave the deer herd and older bucks a pretty rough time and buck tag numbers were cut way back. Just like anywhere, there are still some good ones around.

Hello. I just got from a vacation up around Green Mountain and the north Kremmling area which would be units 181 & 18. Heard like Buckspy that the winter was a little harder than recent years. We did see some good older bucks, a little more than usual. We were not activly looking for deer but there should be an abundance of bucks to hunt. Also, there were some really nice bucks taken in those areas last year that we saw pictures of. You should do well. Best of luck.

Nice pics. I'm sure I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a deer like that anyway. Thanks for the info. I did put in for that tag as a first choice with 0 points. Glad to here there are deer in there. Would you recommend any specific or general areas within those units to check out. Thanks.

Scott, I spend a fair amount of time in Middle Park and am getting to know the area fairly well after hunting/scouting it hard for several years now (and after taking a couple respectable bucks).

You have tagged some great guys already (BuckSpy and cohntr6) that know the area well, but if I can help acquaint you w/ the area, just drop me a message. I'll share w/ you what I can.

Good luck!
