Just wondering in the northwest corner of Region H on the non-resident map there is a section that does not appear to have been issued an area number. I can call G&F on Monday but I'm wondering if anyone might know if this area is closed to Mule deer hunting or if the General Region H allows you to hunt it.

You must be refering to the Unit 149 and the back side of Teton national Park and the Teton Mountains, is this correct??

Brian

Brian, yes that's the area. Maybe the Red line that I'm looking at is the dividing line for wilderness and non-wilderness area?

Thanks Dwayne

Duwammer, I believe it is Huntable thru the Region H tag. Un less I am looking at something other than you and Brian, the section that has the lines thru it are Wilderness areas....Oh wait, I see what you are refering too...Boy that is a Interesting situation...I'll bet someone has gotten some lines colored coded wrong or something.....No number with that section, if it is the same section I see now...it is NON-wilderness and open for non-residents...just no number attached.

Be interested to know what Wyoming G&F have to say....From one Dwayne to another Dwayne...Dwayne Elam(cowboye)

LAST EDITED ON Jul-16-05 AT 04:41PM (MST)[p]I use to have a Targhee National Forest Map but not sure where it is now. Not sure if you can go into that area through Grassy Lake or not, it looks like it but not sure. Years ago I met the first person to be issued an Outfitters License and he was known as Grassy Lake Outfitters, but has since sold and someone else has the business.
This 1964 Teton Nat. Forest map probably is outdated, but there are roads in from Idaho to this area too, unless it has changed too.
Good luck and you might want to contact F&G and put this question to them also.

P.S. Not sure if you are interested but here is the Grassy Lake Outfitter. Curt Merrill & Brad Rhodes

Hey guys I think the area you are referring to is Grand Teton Nat'l Park------Sorry but I'm prteey sure there is no hunting allowed in GTNP, very similar to Yellowstone. I too have a region H tag and am looking for more info on where to start my scouting???? Any help?

This area in reference to is not in the TETON NAT. PARK. I finally found my map and the only road I see is through Grassy Lake Reservoir on the Wyo. side.
There is WYO highway 33 out of Wilson, Wy that goes to Victor, ID and a short dirt road out of there called Moose Creek.

There are 9 other roads off of this Hwy 33 headed north on the Idaho side that will take you back into the Targhee Nat. forest.
If you go further north on Hwy 32 headed to Felt and Lamont there are 4 more. BUT remember you are in Idaho and maybe there is private land there where you can't go through, so check it close and be safe.

I just got back from an elk unit that is a Region H deer unit. Stayed in Lower Slide lake campground. unit 156 I believe it is for H deer. access via Jackson to Kelly east........ Saw some nice bucks in Velvet and some nice bulls too.......

Ok, just got off the phone with a nice lady from Wyoming Game and Fish. After putting me on hold and checking, the area in question, according to her is "NOT OPEN" to Mule Deer Hunting.
