Which unit

I have six points for elk. I personally would rather hunt deer than elk. I just got off the waiting period for deer and would like to draw out for elk this year so that I can start building deer points. The two units that I am looking at for elk are La Sal Mountains and Central Mtn Nebo. I would be hunting with a bow, and have checked draw odds and have a good chance at drawing both tags. I guess I am just looking for people that have hunted these two units and if it was a good hunt. I am just looking for something 300" or better. being out and seeing animals is more important than killing something huge. I would be grateful for any experiences with this two units and any other units that you can draw with 6 points.

Thanks

The very first thing I would look at is which unit if either have you ever set foot on, there is not much worst thing in my opinion than a crash course year of scouting spending days upon days and loosing every weekend with the family just to find where the elk are, let alone the one you want to kill.
I am not trying to be harsh, I am speeking from my own personal experience from years prior, It seems by the time you have the elk figured out on the Utah LE Archery, and the bulls are finally starting to cooperate you are within 1-2 of the season end and you are in crunch time and loosing sleep over the stress, yes I said stress, those who have drawn a Archery LE Tag and didnt kill until acouple of days before the close KNOW what I am talking about. With that being said, I have a friend who hunted the Manti-Nebo archery, he said it was very tough, he did not kill, I know for a fact he hunted hard for days upon days,
they did see bulls that fit your critirea though.
I would be prepard for a extreme phisical hunt on that unit. I dont know anything about the LaSal Unit.
Hope this helps you decide. GOOD LUCK IN THE DRAW!!

There is a reason that the Nebo hunt is so much easier to draw than the others. It is steep as a mother trucker. My buddy drew that tag on accident. He was so happy that he drew it with only 5 points. Well he put in for the wrong "central" unit. He thought it was manti and it wasn't. That unit kicked his butt. Don't know about La Sal... I don't know where you live but I would look in to South Cache.

well I know from previous hunts that I have been on summer scouting is what makes it fun to hunt. On other hunts we have done it as a family if someone draws a LE or out of state tag everyone enjoys exploring new places. I have been told that the Nebo unit was a steep and hard hunt, but I have yet to get any info on the La Sal Moutains. I do know that the La Sal has a higher success rate than the Nebo at least on the archery hunt. Anyone ever hunted the la Sal

The LaSals have elk but it can be a tough hunt. I know a good hunter who drew the archery bull tag 4 years ago and he ate tag soup.
