Just got back from scouting looking for someone who spends some time west of gothic, Pittsburg, just looking for some info on deer sightings in the area in early Nov.

Most will be lower than that come November.

SheepGuide,
I will be up at my cabin in Pittsburg this week. I plan on scouting a few areas for my groups coming in to mule deer hunt. When I get back I will let you know what I saw, however that probably won't help you for early Nov. since hunting pressure and weather could move the deer out of that high elevation Success in that area seems to be dictated by the weather. Are you SheepGuide from Bowsite.com forum? -CB-

Thanks I have several good leads in the unit just want to narrow down my options, 55 is a very large unit I want to optimize my hunting time and not be running all over the unit. Yes I'm the same SheepGuide from the Bowsite.

I was there last weekend and found lots of bucks in the high country, but from what I understand, most of the deer will be much lower in Nov. The Lost Canyon area will be a zoo as most years there are plenty of elk that move in and the elk hunters will be there waiting. The south end is thoroughly roaded and gets lots of traffic, but most will be elk hunters as there are only 90 deer tags during the third season. You have a good tag, but you need to be patient. Most of the "trophy" hunters will probably be headed home by Tuesday with their "trophy", so just hang in there and be prepared for some long shots. Hopefully there will be plenty of snow above treeline...Steve

It's a guessing game on the weather in Nov our patterns have been any thing but normal. We typicaly don't get a lot of snow in Nov, one or two in Oct usually a good one around halloween, wich would be good timing for my hunt on the 5th of Nov. Its my experience that you'll find them where you find them. In between the rifle seasons I hope to get out and look a little see what is going on with them, that should give me a better idea where to look. patience is not a problem you have to have alot when your guiding sheep hunters, which carries over to when its my turn to hunt. I plan on sticking it out to the last minute, and If I don't find the buck I'm looking for I'm sure that I'll return home with a great experience from the hunt and be just as happy. thank you for the info.

Sheepguide, you don't guide for Unit 55, I drew a second season tag, and feel like I may be out of my depth.Know any reputable guides? That are reasonable in price? I am not cheap just not wealthy! I am mainly a whitetail hunter. Any help would be great.

I do not guide in unit 55. Contact Brad Phelps he has posted here and on the bowsite. He may be able to help you out.

Wishunter. When you get back from your 55 hunt maybe you could
let those of us who drew the late tag know how you did.Road and range conditions, what to watch out for...
