Whats up with the guys in the mule deer forum? I like most everyone else here, read all the forums. After reading them for 2-3 years, I have recognized that there are far more arguments, attacks, and plain old immaturity here? Whats up with that? Why does it seem like it doesnt happen as much in the other forums? There are vastly more pissing matches here than anywhere else on MM.com. Someone expain!

These are some possible answers to your question.

I DONT KNOW THE ANSWER GRIZZ, BFE HAS SOME GOOD ONES THOUGH. BUT I CAN TELL YOU THIS: THIS MM SITE IS UP TO 7,810 HUNTERS/CONTRIBUTORS, AND GROWING LIKE A WEED. PEOPLE REALLY LIKE TO BE HERE AS THE NUMBERS CONTINUE TO SKYROCKET. I DONT KNOW OF ANYONE LEAVING MM, IT MUST BE "THE" SITE. YD.

This is a summer normal occurancy. I think it has to do with the time of year, the hunts are still too far off, people are po'd about not getting their tag. Fall is the time to be on the site when photos are coming up everyday and stories are coming fast and furious, summer is pretty slow. Been here since 99 and it is always like this, too bad really.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-20-05 AT 05:27PM (MST)[p]Don't forget about school being out, when school starts up again those zit faced little punks will be too busy popping zits and chasing skanks in their mommy and daddys car to come on here and start problems.

Over 100 degrees for the 9th day in a row. Can see a little snow left at 11,000 feet from work. Too busy to go there.

The MM count of 7,810 members but you will probably never see more than close to 100 at any given time on here at the same time.
Remember a lot of the original members don't even come here anymore, got tired of the urine competition a long time ago.

The names used by them can not be reused so that is why the count continues to grow.

About 1,500 different IP addresses access the forums each day.
About 3,000 different IP addresses access the website each day.
(Last months data)

Some IP addresses can be shared by multiple people (AOL does this). Some people can also access the site with different IP addresses each day. There is no way to know EXACTLY how many different people actually view a website, without forcing them to login. All a website owner can really do is "estimate" the number of different people viewing a site based on all the data we have.

447 people who actually have a login name, logged into the forums yesterday.

The fact is, most people don't post as often as the regulars do. It's a bummer, but I guess some people just have other interests. ????? Seems strange, but I suppose it's possible that not everyone thinks "Big Bucks" 24/7.

Most people who register a username, do so to ask a question or two, then they're done for a while---just listen.
Lots of people just watch from the sidelines and jump in when they have something to add. Nothing wrong with that.

This is a slower time of year. In the fall traffic should double or more.

I doubt many of you really care, but since you guys are having a discussion about it, I figured I'd share.

PS - I'm sure MM days are numbered, but who knows what that number is???? I still think it's fun to see the great photos in the Photo Tours and Photo Gallery, read a few stories, and gather info. shared in the forums. I'll admit, there's some trash talking that goes on, but that's life. I, and the excellent moderators of this site, do our very best to keep it to a minimum.
I hate to see anyone leave, but I'm not one to beg someone to stay. I do the best I can do.

Looks like you are getting some great traffic. Regardless of the time of year, I always come on and see what is going on. As a beginner to hunting, I dont have much to contribute, so reading is of far more interest to me.

I can totally understand all the reasons listed in the first response. Some of those burn me up a bit too. However, none of those reasons are really unique to mule deer hunters vs. elk or other big game hunters, yet for some reason, there is more trash talking in this forum vs. the others. Just think its interesting. Thanks for your replies!

Brian -
You and the mods do an great job. Babysitting 24/7 isn't an easy thing.
Let me say THANK YOU for an awesome site.

Brian,
You are doing a GREAT job!!! This is the best big game site out there, hands down... "Big Bucks, 24/7"!!!
But, this problem of disrespect and personal attacks is not limited to the MM site.
I don't know if this is an age related issue(seems young folks these days have little or no respect for anything)or not, but it is a problem in all areas of life. If someone can't discuss a topic without making personal attacks or whining, then they should be ignored. Or banned, like at other sites. That is not to say they won't stop or hop somewhere else to spread their trash or in the case here, just change their name and continue...
When I was young my folks taught me, not to get my jolleys at the expensive of others. I grew out of that bad habit by the time I was around 16, because my folks held me accountable for my actions.
I personaly hate to hear any talk of this sites' demise, but I know that because sometimes a bad apple is messing things up for the rest of us. And we all will pay the price in the long run.
Thanks again Brian, but it ain't your fault...

Compared to some of the other sites I frequent -ie- Archery Talk, the bickering really isn't that bad. Even with the occaisional barb here, I'm genuinely appreciative of the wealth of knowledge and the willingness among MM members to share it with others. Keep it up guys. As for the age/blindness comments, those are increasingly too close to home to be very funny very often!
