confused about b&c scoring

I was wondering, why on a non typical elk, that there is a gross score and a net score. I thought, on a non typical, that you measured every point, the width, length, and circumfrence, then added them up. I guess my question is, Why are there deductions on a non typical?

The deductions are off the animals typical frame. The Non Typical points are then added to the net typical frame.

Yup. Essentially you score a non typ just like a typ, you do the main frame first, deducting for difference between the two sides. The only difference is instead of subtracting abnormal points from the score like you do on a typical, you add them to the final score.

SCI gives you a nice, fat, total gross score. Both systems have their purpose.

I would like to see how all of the trophy heads in B&C would score using the water displacement test that credit them for their actuall volume or horn mass. ALL credit is given for EVERY inch of antler grown. Spidy would still stomp the competition but it could be interesting with other species.

I was told for the water test that the horns have to be removed from the skull plate. There is no way I am getting rid of the skull plate for a scoring test. I was told this is the way they do it in Europe.
