I went and spoke at the CWC meeting last Thursday
in Montrose. Most of the meeting was the 5 year
season structure. Limited elk nominations was
what I spoke about. With unit 62 in 2001 and a
bunch of units in 2004 all shot down by the CWC
I felt the nominating process that was proposed
will also result in failure to pass any new
units. Some thoughts on new limited units. Using
66-67 in Gunnison as models(created in 1997) with
a 50% reduction in tags, a resident will be
able to draw the first 3 rifle with 0-1 points.
Depending on the tag allotments, muzzle and archery
more points.Nonres can still draw these tags with
0-1 points also. When 61 and 76 went draw they did
a 90% reduction in tags. There is no way DOW or
hunters would accept that today. 66-67 went from
one of the lowest bull-cow ratios in the state
to one of the better in 2-3 years. Roy in Montrose
