Wat dose every body think about 12A WEST early hunt do you think it is steel a trophy hunt.

Early hunt is real tough due to weather. You hope it snows to move the deer. It is huge country and if you havent put some time in scouting etc...hire a guide..... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

well thanks for the advice allen. butt ther are two things a guide has that most people dont. good opticts and time. i have bolth.

billgoat, I wasnt insinuating you couldnt do it. I have optics and time and I hunted the west side last year. I also have a friend that drew the same tag you have this year and my advice to him was pay someone for at least a map service that gives you a kick start for 250.00 and then get up and scout as much as you can. Because its so dependant on weather, you can have as much time and as many optics as you want, but if the deer are not there, no time nor optics will create the deer. If someone specifically put in for the early, westside hunt, thinking it is a "trophy hunt" then:
A) They don't know that this is really a glorified "meat hunt"
B) If it doesn't snow and push those deer off the mountain, 75% of the bucks taken on this hunt will be under three and a half years old
C) they have obviously never hunted there during this time!
Do they ever take big bucks on this hunt? Sure they do, but no one should ever think this is a trophy hunt.... "Even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while" is a good motton for that early hunt.
It is not designed by G&F to be a trophy hunt, and unless Mother Nature steps in and pushes those deer out of the oaks, it ain't gonna be!

Well maybe I should of called you guys first. before I put in for this hunt. if there are big deer on this mountain i will find one or two. my wife has a tag also. ps I have hunted on this mountain before. and i know the late hunt is a better hunt. or I should say a mutch easier hunt. all the big deer must just apear when it snows. ALSO GOT A BULL TAG.
