does anyone have any pointers on hunting elk on the front. I have been hunting the front for about 5 years now and haven't had any luck with elk. I came pretty close to a big 6x6 but couldn't seal the deal. we basically ran in to him and jumped him out of his bed, other than that its been downhill. just wondering if anyone can shed some light.

Piper - I can't believe you laughed and didn't even fill REDDOG in on the joke.:D It's kina like seeing a booger on your friends face and not telling him.

REDDOG - notice the words, "on the front". That means he's hunting the extended archery area for his ghost elk. You are welcome!:D

It's always an adventure!!!

Just FYI,

The Wasatch front elk hunt closed on the 15th. The only places open right now are the other extended areas for elk.

There are elk on the Wasatch front?
If you tell me where you saw that 6 point Ill go in and show you how to kill it. LOL

I suck also at hunting these bulls. I have put in 3 years on them and have come away empty handed. here are a few tips.

These bulls are well educated so don't blow a call

You have to be in the right place at the right time. These elk move counties and are never in the same place twice.

Always purchase an elk/deer tag you never know when you have luck on your side.

Avoid utard holidays and utard weekends. That is when you will see all the Utards.

Good luck you will need it!

Archery is a year round commitment!!

If you had a legit chance at a 6 point you are doing better than most. I think only a few bulls get killed in that unit every year.

Tough question or any elk hunter hunting on the Front.

If you know where the few elk are... you've just found something special.

Realize that you have hikers, bikers, climbers, dog walkers, nature lovers, trail workers, mountain runners, ski resort workers, and not to mention a heavy dosage of bow hunter scrambling around in the Front.

Your best bet is to go back to where ever you ran into your 6x6 and hunt him again or his offspring.

As stated by others, elk on the Front are few and far between. I see them as the ultimate prize on the Wasatch Front. If you are lucky enough to find one, let alone shoot one, consider it a trophy!

Good Luck.

Good luck.
