I have enough points to draw a coveted unit 201 tag this year. Has anyone been there lately or know anything about it?

I would like to make it a great hunt, haven't been there for years and years.

Thanks.

Take as much of the season off as possible and as much time before the season as you can manage. Don't shoot the first 300" bull you see. I'm assuming you'll be hunting with a rifle. Good luck!

Yeah I have some info for ya, how many points do you have ? A good friend just hunted it last year blackpowder.

I have 18 points after last years draw, also I just purchased a muzzleloader for the first time. Is the opportunity for a big bull better with a muzzleloader?

I have several friends who have hunted it and one hunted it last year. He killed a 300 class bull on a mistake, shot the wrong bull after having laid his glasses down, things happen. The biggest thing I see with these trophy areas is that it takes so long to draw that guys get nervous after a few days of hunting and settle for something less. Bulls were all over him every day and they saw some great bulls but ended up with a nice 6 point. Another friend has hunted this area numerous times with his son and wife and same thing holds true on every one. A lesser bull always gets shot than what they were trying for. Keep your finger off the trigger if you want a big bull !!! It isnt easy passing up bulls and you better be able too in that area because it is probably better hunting than most have ever seen.

201 has seen better days...
I would expect to find 350+ bulls on good rain years.
The last couple years have been tough finding the 350+ caliber bulls. I agree with others,,,I would also be looking at other units. or, being you know your going to draw, you need to start scouting the units you are interested in....

Don't do Unit 10. Just terrible. The Colorado quality units are quickly becoming no better than over the counter units.

For a non resident with that many points you dont have much choice in my opinion. It almost has to be unit 201, I dont think there is any better unit out there that is available. If your a resident you can do way better than 201 with at least one of the rfw ranches and maybe more than just one ?

Everyone can argue about which unit is tops but there are so few bulls in Colo over 350 that it can change from year to year which unit has the 1 or 2 360+ class bulls available! If a guy has the time to find and keep tabs on a super bull in a particular unit and draw that particular tag the next season this would likely be the best chance for a 360+ bull in a number of select Colo units. Most guys can't or won't do this so it is a matter of lucking into drawing the right tag the right year when good antler growth, great hunting conditions, and the right bull shows up!

Obviously some Colo units may have more 330+ bulls available than others but when you are talking 350+ bulls it is a crap shoot!

ElkCrzy1,

So if you were a CO resident and had 18 points then exactly which RFW would you pick? Hill ranch or what?

Yeah Hill Ranch hands down, always 350 plus bulls, doesnt matter from year to year either they are there.
