On another post the question was asked "who kills an elk every year?" My question is does anyone find they have more success hunting elk than deer? Over the last 4 years I've killed 3 bulls (2 spikes and a 5x6) and one cow in UT on public land with a rifle compared to one 4x4 150 class buck. Granted 150 inches is the minimum buck that tempts me to shoot a muley so I guess its like comparing apples and oranges since I've been willing to shoot yearling and raghorn bulls.

nmelktrout on the other post summed up my experience getting an elk when he wrote "knowing one hell of a nice honey hole located in some God-foresaken spot that always seems to shelter elk."

I'm astounded at the DISTANT hell holes elk will go to when presured on the general season. A couple of times I've thought I'd never do this again as I'm hiking out over 100 pounds of meat but next year I'm right back in there--funny what 11 months off from elk hunting will do to dull your memory.

I have found I am much more successful on elk. But I too have shot some spikes and cows along with a handful of branched bulls. Maybe it is because deer are not as high of a priority to me. There is just something about those dang elk! Congrats on your elk!

I have shot alot more deer than elk. Maybe because I would rather hunt deer and I put more effort in deer than elk. Maybe because I Mostly hunt Private ground? Maybe because I will shoot the first 5 inch spike that comes too my salt lick? :)

I have shot more elk than deer mainly because i like the meat a-lot more. I find that with elk i hunt harder because the reward is better. Tastes like chicken. Jason
