I am just curious if anyone had any info on some good trails that I could hike to get into the wilderness. I think I might give that a try this year, I decided to rifle hunt this year, so packing in some where might be fun not 2 sure were to go.

Any of the trails will get you into deer country there aren't really any hotspots up there, pick one, scout it and pray for decent weather, if its too hot its just a camping trip with very limited hunting time(hour a day). If I had limited time I would focus my time on the general season, its much more productive. The high hunt is a fun time though.

I've hunted the Glacier Peak Wilderness for the last two years and I've found that(at least where I've been hunting)like any high country hunting, the bucks tend to be in the same places year after year. I hunt from 5,000-7,000 feet elavation where no horses can go and only people in seriously good shape can get to. The edges of steep avalanche chutes near the top of ridges seem to be where I find them. Also, high plateaus and saddles with good escape routes have been productive. Last year I didn't shoot a deer in the high hunt (my brother shot a 3 point he mistakenly took for the "big one" with it and being 12.5 miles from the nearest road, our hunt ended there)but I could have shot at five bucks that were three point or better in 2 days of daylight to dark hunting. I'm going in for 7 days this year and have been training for the last month. Thank god bear and cougar opended up so I can do more than hike.

Good Luck!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-03-05 AT 00:44AM (MST)[p]Its fun, but not the most productive. The deer are spread pretty thin back there. There aren't that many trail access points, so just pick one, hike your butt off and pray for luck. Are you thinking in your neck of the woods, or up North in the Pasayten.
