Im going to put in for the muzzleloader hunt on one of these units, but cant decide which one. I was hoping you guys would give me your .02 worth, and maybe make my decision easier. My biggest concern on the wasatch is the deer hunters, anyone else have problems with this on thier hunt?

Thanks SPOONFUL

Is the concern that there will be a lot of archery or ML hunters in there during your hunt? I haven't looked at the dates for the corresponding seasons but I imagine that would be a bit of a problem on the Wasatch.

Wholelotta, I know there are ml hunters during that time everywhere but I thought where the Books is LE there would be less people. AS where the wasatch is open to everyone.

gznokes Im concerned about the ml hunters, the ml deer season is at the same time.

Yah. You are right there. There will definately be more hunters on the Wasatch at that time. I was just saying the Book Cliffs can be a tough place to learn if you have not hunted it before. I think the Wasatch is a little more "user friendly" but definately more crowded.

It's always an adventure!!!

I have 10, I think that is right on the borderline of both units. With last years weather and success I think alot of people might be jumpin ship to the ML, so I think the odds will get worse.

SPOONFUL

If i was you i wouldnt jump ship yet i think you got about 2-3 years of prime hunting yet, and regardless of what others say the rifle is still the tag to have. With ten points you should draw in the next 2 years so hang on for a little while longer. I think it will be worth your time. BTW stick with the wasatch, the books has some great bulls on it but like AWLB said it is not very user friendly.

I hunted the Wasatch last year during rifle season and was blown away by the number of people running around on the unit.

Most of these folks were campers , hikers, 4 wheeler riders and horse back riders .

I would advise you to get a guide as they will know exactly how to use the activity to there advantage.

I used Jim Hiatt with awolelotta bull guides and outfitters and Jim and his guides did a fantastic job.

I know berryblaster also guides on the unit and does a great job also.

I did shoot a very nice bull on the 5th day after a lot of work and getting away from everyone.

Let me know if i can help in anyway and good luck.

berry Im not jumping ship, you see in 2006 I was a very lucky SOB and drew a bookcliffs rifle tag from turning in my unfilled dedicated hunter tag. So I already have a rifle kill and wanted to get a ML kill. If every thing goes just right then maybe next year I can draw an achery tag from the expo.

Bullmania thanks for the advice and if I do put in for the wasatch and get a tag I may just take you up on your offer.

Thanks SPOONFUL

bighamr my bull off the books scored - 100% satisfied hunt, friends, family, and the great outdoors - He scores 312, good fronts, great mass, and short main beams(this is where he looses inches) he looks good on the wall. With one elk down now I can focus on a monster.

Spoonful - a little better than 60% with 10 points on the Wasatch and 8% on the Book Cliffs. The odds increase to 50% with 11 on the Books. I do believe the odds will be better this year because they are giving out more tags on both units.

Congrats SPOONFUL sounds like you already had one hunt of a lifetime. I guide on the Bookcliffs and if you decide to go back let me know and i will help you out any way I can.

I'm not sure what the tags will increase to. If history repeats itself it will be somewhere around 10%. I hope I'm wrong and it's a lot less but I would bet it will be somewhere around that number. I do believe the tag numbers will be available the end of March or first part of April.
