I have 8 NR PP and wanting to do a Muzzy hunt this year. Any decent locations I may draw. Any chance I could pull Wasatch?

there is always the chance to pull a random tag.. happens every year, someone with 1 or 0 points pulls a LE tag

They are bonus points not prefrance points so you'll have a chance but not a good chance.

Your odds on the wasatch with that many points for a muzz tag are less then 3%

You will have a better chance at drawing nebo, fishlake, and a few others but there isn't really any units you have a really good chance at drawing a non resident muzzleloader tag with only 8 points

The Central Mountains,Nebo or South Slope Diamond Mountains are your best odds with 8 points.Don't know anything about these units, but your chances of drawing either are very good. The Wasatch would be tough with 8 points, but you never know. Good luck to you in the draw.

I have hunted diamod mountain three times and have killed three 6 point bulls But I would not put in for that unit unless you have a lot of time to scout.

Coming form the East coast I need an area I can lear resonably well in a week of scouting prior to the season. I am agreeable to the use of a guide if I can hook up with a reputable one for a reasonable price.

Tracker,

For a muzzy tag, the odds on the Wasatch are going to be pretty tough. There were 5 total tags with 2 bonus tags and 34 people ahead of you with 15 more at your level.

However, there are a couple other options you could consider. As has been said already the Nebo unit could offer a guaranteed tag, but that can be a tough hunt and the quality has slipped a bit the past few years. The Diamond Mtn could also offer good odds, but there is no bonus tag (so no guarantee at any level) and there is a lot of private land to contend with. But if you look at Manti and Fishlake, there lies some potential.

The Manti offers the same number of tags as the Wasatch and has comparable quality. Last year there were only 5 guys ahead of you and 2 of them drew. Depending on what the remaining 3 do this year, you could wind up with some pretty good odds. Fishlake also offers a similar situation. In this case, there were only 2 guys ahead of you and one of them is now gone. Depending on what the remaining guy does, you could end up competing for the only bonus tag offered on this unit. I wouldn't say either area offers a guarantee, but you could have a real good shot at either one.

Either way you decide to go, you are getting real close to a muzzleloader permit. If you are interested, there are some archery tags and even a few rifle tags you are close to as well.

I also sent you a PM.

Good luck,

Jon
