I'm real sure that I can draw an archery tag for these units or else I could wait another year and hunt the Central Mountains Manti unit or Cache North with a muzzleloader. Is it a tough call for you guys too if you were me? Looking for a solid chance at a 350+ bull. Thanks for any input!

I just hunted the Manti for archery elk. It was a fun hunt, but very tuff. I think that the muzzy hunt this year will be the best time to hunt. I had the Manti tag 2 times and came home empty. Saw lots of elk, got close to lots of elk, missed a 350 bull at 60 yards, (I choked, flinched). I was on elk all of the time. It was a thick bugger and never had clear shooting lanes. I would do it again if given the chance.

I forgot to mention, there were a few good bulls. I saw a few in the one area that I hunted that were from the range of 350 to a 390. But not a ton. The biggest was a 385 that was killed on the rifle hunt.

dutton and diamond are very hard units to hunt with archery gear. Dutton bulls are still mostly up high and if the national forest. you could kill a bull on diamond in the 320 to 330 maybe but 350 plus are few and far between. in the past 4 years or so i've seen one 350 bull and 2 bulls scoring 367 one 7 and one 6. the 6 was this year and it was luck. a lady, me and my dad had up there from northern calf killed the bull. me and my dad came home to go to work and her and her husband seen the bull above camp and went up to where the bull went in timber that afternoon and shoot the bull. also on diamonld you may need a horse or a key to a gate.

Solid chance at a 350+ bull and south slope diamond mountain should never be in the same paragraph.

I have hunted diamond three times and shot 300-330 bulls each time lots of elk but dont expect 350. bulls but there are a few 350 bulls...........................................................BUT VERRY FEW....................

I got around easy on foot. I am 31 years old and keep somewhat in shape. Some thick stuff. Don't expect to bugle in a bull out of the trees and into the clear like in any video you might watch. Like I said before, I would do it again if I could. As long as you like to hike, you should be ok. It is not long or a killer, just alot of GOOD hiking. But of coarse, everything uphill is hard in the mountains.
