LAST EDITED ON Aug-09-05 AT 11:37AM (MST)[p]I bought some but im sure not feeling lucky as my drawings from this year show.
I actually bought some blacktail ones since thats the least boughten one. id like to have a big blacktail on the wall.

I lost

Sheep - #1649
eastside deer - #283
eastside elk - #3837
goat - #369
moose - #1167
westside elk #196

I lost to, i was #145 in blacktail. I see a guy from Maryland won the raffle ticket to hunt Rocky Mountain bighorns in the blues.

It was my best ever raffle showing.....13th place for Moose. Probably best though my plate is pretty full...I'm headed to Alaska next month for caribou and hopefully a wolf. I've got plenty of scouting to do for my Oct. 24th elk opener @ Peaches Ridge. Any info on Peaches would be appreciated. My first time in the area last week I found a six pt. bull in the Tanuem...hope he's there when I get back in October.

Some pretty interesting stuff if you look at the successful guys;

Mountain Goat - the guy that won bought 580 raffle tickets. He made the odds about 3.5 to 1. Imagine spending $3,500 bucks and not winning!

Bighorn Sheep - The winner bought 100 tickets.

Eastern Deer - The winner bought 3 tickets and out of those was drawn first AND second. Interesting....

Myself, I would be for limiting the amount of tickets purchased per person. Let's try to keep something that has to do with hunting away from 'the guy that has the most money wins' game.

Why would you want to limit how many tickets a guy can buy? Thats why they raffle.To make the most money they can.That guy who spent 3500 on the chance to draw? It happens all the time.Most states dont give as much info break down as Washington.You can bet alot of raffles are won exactly like that.Guys will put in lots of money for a chance.People who have a lot of money/and some who dont... are willing to spend it.If you had it you would too.Its funny how guys want to hold every one else back;
so they get a better chance.Save your money for a couple years
and try.Not worth it? then dont ##### cause it is to many others....

The guy that bought $3500 worth od mountain goat tickets took a good risk. If you look at last year the auction tag sold for $8,475. This guy only spend $3,500 and gets the same season as the auction tag holder. So he saved almost $5,000.

The raffle tickets give the average guy a chance for a tag of a lifetime. and the money goes to good use. The WDFW makes more money for wildlife for each animal through the raffle then the auction tags except for the bighorn sheep. So keep buying raffle tickets.

Totally agree with Craig and fullcry. I'd do the same thing if I could....at least in this particular drawing. That's why it's a raffle. And $3500 is not a lot concidering the tag he got. People will pay way more than that for a chance to hunt goat....and then not shoot one....so I think it was a pretty good risk.

Hopefully the dude that won the Eastern Deer will hop on here like Mule_Deer_Crazy did last year so we can all follow him around.

Kirkl- simply plug the winning number(s) for any of the raffles into the box and then push search. It will show you how many of what tickets each person bought, just like you check your own.

You other guys - I'm not going to bother trying to change your mind, but;

The guys that can afford the auction tags should buy the auction tags. I think the raffle should have some kind of limit, and I don't mean 1 ticket, to keep someone from severely skewing the odds in their direction.

I'm not exactly struggling to get by in life, but I don't believe hunting and the right to do it should be dictated by the size of an individual's wallet. Sure, we aren't like England yet, but we are certainly traveling at a speedy clip down the same set of tracks. A lot of you guys right now don't have a problem with how things are, but just wait. Sooner or later that line of seperation between the have's and the have not's will rise past your income level and then we can all get back on here and see if you are still singing the same tune....

Ive got news for you ipkus,,,Those days are here and there is nothing we can do about it..Do i like it? No body does.You have two posts so you are probobly new.SUGGESTION go back through the arkives and read every one you can handle.You will learn alot like i have.It wont take you long to figure out the competition is incredibule.Guys will do whatever it takes to
get tags or be successful. All you can do is go for what you
want...There are guys on here that have hunted for 40 years.
Others that are brand new.Some are very smart,some are pretty
stupid or jeolous.You will notice the cryers arnt very sucessful.While the guys who see the whole picture do very well....Good Luck

Interesting Idea Ipkus about checking the winning numbers. As for the guy who got 1st and 2nd, I hope he didn't use up all of his luck. As for the guy paying 3500 and saving 5,000, what you don't know is he spent 3500 last year and the year before. That really hurts. Good for him! I just hope the money goes back into the wildlife instead of the general fund like hunting licenses.

That guy must have one hell of a goat scouted out for the last couple of years.

$3500 X 3 = A awsome goat hunt in BC or Alaska. Or one washington goat permit.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-15-05 AT 09:53AM (MST)[p]Fullcry- I can't understand what in the hell you are trying to say....

And, thanks for the 'newbie' lecture from a guy with 26 posts!!

I am not whining in anyway, just providing a little data analysis for everyone and voicing my personal opinion about how I think it should work. Where did I say poor me and cry about it? Hell, I've already won a Washington State raffle this year, what would I be bitching about???

Boneaddict- Huh, so he's done this twice before and not won? Wow....that had to hurt. Supposedly all the money from the auction tags goes directly to that specific animals benefit, I haven't heard where the money from the raffles go....

Ipkus,the difference is i have been on here for several years.i just dont say much.Usually i PM others...I figured by the way you talked you didnt know much.So i tried to give you a heads up.You seemed to come across as a whiner.Sorry,my mistake.

kirkl- I won the turkey raffle this spring.

fullcry- Did you ever consider that maybe I've been on here for years? Maybe I don't post much? Maybe I reregistered as it was easier to change my screen name? Anyway, no big deal....
