***Not looking for your honey-hole, just a read on quality.

Does anyone know anything about this area? I got a last minute opportunity to hunt deer here on a ranch, but haven't been in this unit. I have a place to hunt, and will be with someone who has been there before, but am wondering about deer quality. This county doesn't show up in the top 15 for trophies, but that doesn't mean much given the competition with those well known areas.

There were some guys that posted some pretty nice bucks that were killed in either 37 or 38 last year. They too hunted a private ranch. The bucks were heavy horned, but didn't have the longest of tines if I remember correctly. You'll have a much better shot at a good one than hunting the public ground, that's for sure.

the terrain is a lot of rolling cedars/junipers.

Good luck. Pretty country.

Unit 37 is actually a pretty good unit , and probly really good on a private ranch . Every year a couple nice bucks get taken outta there , I've actually hunted over near Ancho , and saw some nice deer . 37 and 38 usually have pretty good numbers but theres always been alot of pressure , even more so on the rifle hunts , but again , a private ranch is a whole different deal . I'd say take the hunt , if its not outragously priced , you should see bucks in the 22 - 25 inch range and maybe a buck or two in that 26 - 30 inch we all hope to....NMHUNTNUTT

i have hunted the corona/ancho area a couple times (both public land). it's beautiful country w/ alot of animals. both times i saw alot of doe, a couple spikes and i glassed a couple nice shooters. unfortunately the bucks were on private land. i am unsure which ranches they were on. i will be in ancho this year on public land. good luck!

Thanks guys for the input! Sounds like the opportunity is there. I'm in! 'course, I'm an easy sell on another hunt of almost any quality...
