Has anybody with an elk or deer tag got a letter informing you of a controled burn thats supposed to take place on sept 1.

WELL

I HAVEN'T HEARD ABOUT IT!!!

THESE CONTROLLED BURNS IN THE FALL BY THE FOREST SERVICE ARE BULLCRAP!!!

I'VE SEEN THEM PULL THIS TRICK SEVERAL TIMES DURING HUNTING SEASON & I DON'T THINK IT'S RIGHT!!!

I HATE BREATHING SMOKE DURING ANY SEASON!!!

THE ONLY bobcat WONDERING IF THEY DO IT JUST TO AGGITATE A GUY???

No, I haven't heard about that, and I didn't get a letter. Did you? Season starts on the 28th for my muzzy tag, and for the money I spent on the tag I was looking foward to a quality experience. I have seen deer rolling in a freshly burnt areas before (maybe they like to rub off ticks there)?

I'm heading ot there for Bear August 27th, where are they planning on burning? Can you either e-mail me or PM me the specifics.

Thanks CS

I thought the Bookcliffs was all BLM lands? Maybe we have to choke this fall, but I also think we have to look forward to the future for deer/elk in this area. I'd bet the Vernal BLM office would be able to clear this up.

I just returned from a scouting trip this weekend from the Book Cliffs. I haven't received any letters. If they are planning, do you know where? I didn't see any posted notices of any controlled burns along Seep Ridge.

I received my letter last Thursday. I talked to the BLM office in Vernal Friday. Yes, they are planning a couple burns. One is out on the West end of Moon Ridge, they plan to burn 15,000 acres. The BLM said they will probably start this burn around mid October. The second burn will be in the canyons around Rat Hole Ridge, where they plan to burn 7,500 acres. They plan to start this burn in mid September.

These burns are all weather dependent. With as much rain that the books have received this spring and summer, everything is still real green and wet. If it stays wet, they will cancel the burns (as they did last year).

I plan to check back in with the BLM again in a couple weeks to get any updates.

Thanks Smokepole for the reply.I personally havent recieved a letter but heard that there was going to be a burn on September 1.Glad to hear it wont affect my archery elk hunt but looks like the burn at Rat Hole and Moon Ridge could affect some rifle hunters that would be a bummer. good luck to everyone!!!

Please keep us posted, I'm on pins and needles I absoloutly can't wait!! Also just tell me about the deer you guys are seeing in there. I can't think about anything else.

Canyoncrosser,

I went on a scouting trip to the Book Cliffs this past weekend. We saw lots of 24" - 25" 4 point bucks. Everything we saw was up high, as high as you can go. We did find two 28" bucks, one 4x5 and one 4 point. Another buck we spotted on a ridge opposite our camp was a 30" 3 point. I a so excited for this years rifle hunt. The weeks can't go by fast enough.

Good luck to everyone lucky enough to draw tags.

Oh ya, we spotted quite a bit of elk also. Nothing gigantic, one decent 5 point and tons of cows.
