Bennett Hills (ID) Youth Hunt

I may get a chance to take my nephew out on his first deer hunt this year and I see that Idaho has a good number of leftover doe tags for Unit 44-1. This controlled hunt unit includes game management unit 45 (which includes the Bennett HIlls). I know 45 is a coveted draw for bucks and the youth hunt gives kids a week head start before the rest of the doe tags for that unit.

Does anybody have any experience or thoughts on getting a kid a shot at a muley doe in the Bennett Hills in late September?

Thanks much.

Kev

Perfect youth hunt! I'd say your going to get alot of opportunities for shots at does. I think that would be an excellent hunt. If you don't know the area i could definately help you with some places to go.

Hey Model70, you may want to double check the hunt dates on that youth hunt. I think you were probably looking at the muzzy hunt which starts in late September ( Sept. 28th).

The Youth hunt, 44-2 has hunt dates of October 25th - Nov 9th.

Just thought I'd give you a heads up.

Good luck though, I think you will have a much easier chance getting a doe in Late October than you would in Late September. The deer migrate into the Bennett Hills and you will have pleny of opportunities right from any of the roads for a doe.

If you need any specifics, I can point you in the right direction also.

Take care,
Shelby

LAST EDITED ON Aug-15-05 AT 09:46PM (MST)[p]Oops, I had the wrong start date. I still think it gets youth hunters into Hunt Area 45 one week before the 450 adult doe hunters can hunt it.

Some specifics would be great. I plan on taking him up for at least one scouting trip before the season opens. I am somewhat familiar with the area -- I always marvel at the fantastic habitat around Bennett Mountain when I'm on my way to Anderson Dam or Sun Valley.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Model70,

You are correct, the 450 doe hunters hit the unit starting November 1st, so you will have a week before they get in there.
