Saw Spidey Bull at Expo and its a Runt with Freak on......

Talk about a big freaking disapointment. I go to the Expo with the Kid and spinning in the Center of the Mossy area is the Spidey Bull surrounded with big flat screen TV's playing video of the Spidey Bull before it was executed. Could have sworn in one of the videos the Runt is eating the Purina Elk Chow we saw for sale at the Expo... Deer chow... now that just blows me away.

Sure the Runt has its freak on with all sorts of points and palmations but overall its a Raghorn (for Bess) There were four or five tremendous Bulls that were wider and taller and they put Spidey to shame. You could have set Spidey's Runt Rack inside these other Bulls and they would have never touched.

Sure.. there will be some that will say... I'd shoot it in a heartbeat... Probably but I definately wouldn't have made a big deal about it... Poobah to the Spidey Bull worshipers.

I'd shoot it in a heartbeat. Who wouldn't. I definately agree with you. My buddy went to the expo today and said the same thing. Most guys would say they would shoot it because of the score and I can't lie, so would I, but he said it was definately a ugly looking thing. I think as far as looks I would rather take one of those other bulls you seen. I guess it's all about the SCORE,INCHES,SCORE,INCHES,etc.etc.etc. I definately want to kill a bull that would score very well, but I guess what I am saying is that I would rather have a 400" symmetrical 6 or 7 point that looks good on the wall than saying I have the biggest, ugliest bastard in the state. I don't mean to get people going, but who agrees? I am sure that the spider bull looked very good this weekend.Congrats to the lucky hunter. Regardless of what anybody thinks, this is one hell of a bull and accomplishment for the hunter and the state of Utah.

I have to agree that I was much more impressed with the Skronski and Ryan bulls.

This is not a bash Mossback comment, just a question. Did anybody think the whole spider thing was way overdone? Plastic spider rings and cobwebs? I half expected Doyle to come out with a top hat and tails to announce the freak show.

They did have some awesome animals again. Fun show. Wish I had more than a couple hours to run through.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-09 AT 09:10PM (MST)[p]An amazing animal without a doubt, but I am with you guys.... I would have rather killed several of the others bulls I saw there, before the spyder. He just didn't live up to all of the hype.

Shawn Bradley was there today as well, and I talked to him for a few minutes about the bull he killed last year with Mossback. It scored 365".

I'm a sucker for perfect typicals and I'll have to admit that it has maybe a 330 main frame with all that trash. It's just not that great of an elk if you ask me. My buddy is in a booth across from it and said he's really sick of looking at "the ugly thing". LOL!

I think the two bulls on either side of it look to be nearly twice the size. Forget about the score. It's about what you like the look of.

I also got all the ##### vids today and those guys like all the trash too. Yea they score well, but the perfect typicals in the 350 range look bigger to me than a 390 sci bull when it has all that junk sticking out.

Hey, it's what makes the world go around. If we all liked the same thing, the world would stop going around as we'd all be packed in one place on one side of it :)

Cheers,
Pete

I to was not impressed with the spider. I would much rather have a 340 bull that looks normal than that. Just my opinion.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-09 AT 10:29PM (MST)[p]It just goes to show you dont need width and height to make a World Record! It is ugly and not as big as in the pics. But it is still the biggest bull to ever be shot in the wild! And for that I give the spider bull credit!

I dont really care what bull i shot in that collection. They are all big and I would be very happy with any of them! if i had my choice I would shoot a World Record every day of the week!

P.S. I dont worship the bull but i respect it for what it is!

Let's see, shoot a huge beautiful 7x7 bull that scores over 400" or the new Boone and Crockett world record?

Yeah Right, squze me, I'll take the World Record thank you!! :)

Joey

Even the Kids figured this one out...............

I take the Kid with me and pump him up that we are going to see the "World Record" and he looks at it and said... "But those over there are Bigger"

Then I tried to explain Points vs Size... then we went into Aesthetics... My Hell that wasn't fun. Then we got into a discussion on how they were scored... diameter vs length vs mass and then the kid asks which one weighs more... and he won that part then of course someone was selling electronic scoring machines and then it started all over again.

I will take the 7x7 400 cause records can be broken and if thats all your in it for... your name in some silly book... its not worth the hassle.

Oh... get this.. the KID asks... did he get his antlers messed up by rubbing up against a fence ???? I roll my eyes and tell him could have been LOL

Now that i think about it Im pretty sure i saw you there! I walked right by you pushin my little kid in his stroler. it didnt click until i read your post!

P.S. I dont know how to spell stroler????????

That was me..... walker and cane and all

Yes... I'm easy to spot... with the walker. I really enjoyed the Show other than the Spider Bull Disappointment.

I really want to go to New Zealand to hunt a Red Stag and I got a few of the Guide Brochure's but not very many advertised AOK for the Handicapped and I barely made it through the show with the walker... My stubborness and mean streak and lack of funds has delayed the inevitable electronic scooter purchase.

I did score on a very nice Kings Desert Shadow heavy coat at a dirt cheap price and that made the trip worthwhile as well as a day with the kid.. Keep trying to get the hunting spark into his soul but I think there's a generation being lost due to online video games and crap.

RE: That was me..... walker and cane and all

I'd take a 400 typical any day over Spider; but it got me thinking...

Now that I've seen how UNimpressive he is, I think it's more likely he has lived in the wild his whole life and nobody has noticed him.

If I saw him on the hoof, I would think he was amazing, but I never would guess he would go over 500".

Who knows how many hunters thought the same thing.

Its interesting seeing this post because I happen to go to the Northwest Expo in Portland OR last weekend and stumbled upon Dan Agnew's "huge" bull from WA and I noticed I was spending more time looking at his two other monster typical bulls from the San Carlos. Especially the one with the largest main beams of any elk in the world. I never thought much of the WA bull other than it reminded of a stag from New Zealand. As mentioned, I too woudnt pass on these stag like/good scoring bulls because they are unique and special, but I wasnt impressed like I thought I would be. Nothing better than a clean 6x6 400pt true monster-just my opinion.

hey everyone new to the site, been reading for a long time. I had to log in and put in my two cents worth. Anyway as a lady hunter I was more impressed with this bull than any other. 436 san juan bull that to me was the most beautiful bull in the show. Anyone else see this monster!!! I would take this bull over any other. Hated the spider bull. Chatted with Karen Moss also and she was extremely nice.

I snapped a photo when they pulled off the black sheet at 12:30 on thursday. It is is a monster. Right under 500 inches of bone. The only person in this life that is happy for you when something goes well is your mother. Everyone else is bitter and jealous. This Bull is the perfect example of that.

I'm happy for the hunter. But if the 436 bull above and the Spidery were next to each other. I'd shoot the 436.

I don't know what some of you are smoking! I think that he is a cool looking bull! I think a bull with trash is more uncommon that a typical but thats just me. People can say what they want but thats a lot of bone. Say what you will about the spider bull but that does not change the fact he is the World Record! And also I don't think they made too big of a deal out at the show again he is the largest bull ever!

I don't hunt for the record book. I do hunt for a lot of what i and some others consider good reasons yet i do always keep the possibility of getting a "book" animal open.

That said, a World Record Bull Elk would IMO, rank right up there with a world record mule deer. All i know is sounds kinda funny dissing the new #1 in favor of any other bull that scored or scores 400". Given the chance, or the money, yes i'll gladly take the New record head... then, i'll draw or buy a great tag and get a 400" at my leisure :)

New World Records don't come along that often. 400" bulls in North America, not easy by a long shot, but they continue to get taken.

Congratulaions MsDestiny, you've found a whole new way to spin negativitely that nobody else figured out.

I never cease to be amazed and disappointed in what some people will stoop to in order to demean others.

You know I have to admit it--- I, as well as my son, both were way more impressed with the two bulls on each side of ole' Spidey. Just looked way bigger and more impressive to me. I was disappointed with the show as a whole. Thought there would be more stuff to look at and buy but was pretty much a book-a-hunt-athon for the affluent folk. The other thing that stuck in my craw was these wahoos with the 925 yd. kills on game. Don't get me wrong I like a person who is a good shot, but it seems to me what they are doing is called shooting not hunting. Hunting I always thought was getting as close as possible to your quarry, you know, getting down and wallerin' in its piss and living in it's skin for a while then taking it out. Shooting it that far away seems so sanitary and far removed from the whole experience. Just seemed a little lazy-assed to me. Maybe that's all the farther they could get the Rhino or quad to it, I don't know.I guess that's why I bowhunt more now. But hey I guess whatever jacks up your Buick.

I don't think there is a better looking bull than the Skoronski bull as far as having everything other than the spread. He is so symetrical and long...

LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-09 AT 02:21PM (MST)[p]antlerrick +1

that was my favorite bull as well... Spidey and the Ryan bull were very nice don't get me wrong, but I liked the look of the Skoronski bull by far the best

A world record is a world record, and thats that. But dont take my word for it. I'd shoot him in a heartbeat, but im kind of a freak myself!!!

CAelknuts.... who in the world am I demeaning ? Spidey Bull ?

Austed ? Hey... you get what you pay for... Money talks and the Guides do the walking and the watching and the cleaning and the hauling and the promoting... What did he pay ? $150K or something and he wiggled his index finger and ala World Record. Yes... thats an accomplishment in some folks books... not in some others.. That's what makes American Great.. we are entitled to our own opinions.

Sometimes you just have to call them as you see them. We live in a society where if you have the money and the power... you can buy a "World Record" So Spidey Bull went Hollywood.

Destiny

They all look like monsters to me. I would be blessed just to see one in the Wild.

Pretty funny some of the responces. Ego, for the guy that killed the bull. Money, it seems would be a driving force for others here. Neither is worth it. mtmuley
