Colorado Unit 48 ML or early rifle

Can anyone give me a little insight into Unit 48 muzzleloader or early rifle? I have enough points to draw either. I'm looking for a unit where I can get away from the crowds that has a good sized elk herd. Does this unit fit the bill? Is it reasonable to find a 280+ bull in this unit? I've heard a few good things about the unit but that has been several years ago.

Are there any other units I should be considering with 8 NR points?

Thanks in advance.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-08-09 AT 06:07PM (MST)[p]I have never hunted the unit, but did some research on it for a possible hunt. What I heard would make me believe that a 280-300 bull would be doable, but this unit is STEEP and you will have to be in above great shape to get around and get him out. personally I would choose unit 49 over 48, but either should be good

I went up there with a buddy who drew a goat tag and was impressed by the amount of good bulls I saw. Quite a few bulls above timberline and in the shoots that would have scored 300-330. I didn't see many cows/calves, so I don't know how large the herd is. I personally would lean towards the muzzy hunt. Rough, rugged country your wanting there. Good luck.
