Utah winter Range Elk

Since i live in Florida i dont get to see the bulls on there winter range ,what are you guys seeing on the different ranges and how are the elk looking ???

Nothing impressive so far. They are wintering well.

Since I live in Utard I dont get to see the women on the beach. What are you guys seeing on the different beaches and how are they looking?

C'mon Randy, how ARE those beach goe'rs wintering, lets see them!! Lol

Not sure on elk, but judging by the deer in the Henry Mountains last weekend, the deer are fat and look great so i suspect the southern elk are doing even better! ;-)
Good snow, not too deep or sub zero conditions, it's shaping up to be a good year for antler growth as long as our spring will be wet and summer not to dry.

I saw over 1000 head this last weekend, but only a few smaller bulls...Need to figure out where the big boys are hanging...Will find them this weekend!!!
The herds we saw looked very good and healthy...that is a good sign now that the worst of winter is over..
We just need to keep the moisture coming strong for the spring..

I took a drive up to Deseret Land and Livestock last weekend, 2/7/09. We've always seen some bulls that come down to hang out along Highway 89 or 16 crossing back into Utah, north out of Evanston WY. This year we saw 103 bulls, no cows. It was the best we've ever seen. You can drive into Deseret a bit and we saw about 50 of the bulls in 3 groups just inside the property. The others were visible from the highway, though a few hundreds yards away.
Most were 5 and 6 point bulls. Some of the bigger 6's would probably go 340 or so, but I'm not too good with the elk guessing, and they were only a handful.

Another interesting thing is we actually saw some guys trapsin out on the property along the WY border and scare 18 deer, 11 antelope, and a group of 36 bull elk back towards the ranch... What's that about??!!!!

Florida update ---- when its hot out comes the girls with very small bikinis , my wife is with me most of the time ,so i wear my sunglasses ,drink beer and smile alottttttttttt

Here's a couple of photos from Hardware Ranch in northern Utah last week. Utah DWR feeds the elk there every winter. The largest bulls generally do not show up at Hardware. Sorry the pics aren't very good. Animals looked good. One bull had already dropped one side. That seems pretty early to me.

Randy,
