bcs & le elk

After all the U of U drama this year and the Spider Bull drama, I'm starting to wonder if the Utah Limited Entry Bull system is following the BCS model. Supposedly everyone has a chance, but the well connected heavy hitters get the prize and are invited often. Anyone else notice some unique similarities? I'm surprised the BCS has contacted the UDWR to see if they could do a trophey hunting bowl.

It seems to me that we have brought the title game to us, by having the best elk quality in the world right now. If that comes with the cost of sharing a few permits with heavy hitters, I am all for it. Sorry, but I don't see the bcs similarities!

I was explaining the draw system to someone who has never put in before. I told him he could buy a tag off a CWMU or off some other deal as he'll likely die before he'll draw. The conversation evolved into how much was spent on the Spider Bull and other tropheys.

You don't have to be a great hunter to kill record big bull on a le unit, your connections can help you with that. Likewise you don't have to be the best football team get ranked #1.

I'm really not even complaining about the le system, i drew a tag once and had a good time. L.E. accomodates both trophey and meat hunters as a lot of cows are killed on le units too.

I'm just commenting more on life. It's commical how we put so much focus on determining how to measure success, yet those who are the most talented are not always given credit for their skills because of the way things are measured out.

Exactly my point.

Additionally, are you in CA? Ever see the movie In Gods Hands? It's a fictionaly movie about an extremely talented surfer who manages to become the best while avoiding any notariety. Can't say its the best movie with the best acting, but it certainly makes you think about how much hidden talent is out there.
