Book Cliffs--A five point bull elk was shot, hidden and left to rot in the Book Cliffs in east central Utah recently. Elk was found on McCook Ridge, about half a mile south of the junction of the McCook Ridge and Indian Ridge roads. No meat taken. Hidden under some old tree limbs...

Why are people doing this??

Someone in Uinta Basin knows something.....anyone????

This one makes no sense to me at all. Why was it covered up? Why didn't they take the little rag? Who would try to hide it and for what reason. Stupid for sure.

And talk about stupid. Look at the Oregon thread about the cop poacher. Even more stupid.

MM...where stupid is exposed.

DOG.......BAD IN WHAT WAY??? POACHING.....DEER OR ELK/BOTH.......... IS THAT DEER TAG WORTH HAVING ??? THANKS.......YD.

Just thinking, an LE hunter shot the "wrong" bull and went to find a bigger on? You know how flock shooting goes...

This saddens me, I actually had a tag for that hunt this year, loved what I saw, but did seem to see more out of state trucks running around that I would expect. Mostly because I had one of the three non-res tags available and we all couldn't be hunting in the same spot. I was hunting this general area, can't say I saw anything illegal, saw a few yahoo's and snobs, but like I said, nothing that caught my attention. Sorry to hear about this though, I loved the hunt.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-26-09 AT 03:17AM (MST)[p]YD, yes poaching, that was what i was asking about, i hear alot of it is going on, but i live aways away from the books, so i dont know for sure.

as for if the deer tag is worth having, in the time i have spent there, i've seen some nice bucks, but none that i would shoot..not to say there isnt one worthy of my tag on the books, i just never seen one.

I was out there a couple weeks ago and found this bull, I hadnt herd about the poaching untill I got home and my dad said that they had talked about it on the radio. I dont know what happened to the horns but it look as though someone cut each horn off seperate from each other. (probly the F&G) My dad said they said on the radio that it was a big 5 on one side and had a big club horn on the other. It was not a bull shot and left from the hunts, it was shot quite awhile after the last hunt, and is visable from the road (about 100 yards or less), I found it after a bunch of magpies and crows flew off of it as I drove by.
