Oregon Elk

Anyone have some good advice on what unit in Oregon to put in for with 6 points to shoot (rifle) a decent bull? I'm no trophy hunter and am about 60% meat and 40% horns (i.e. I'd rather see numbers then quality). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Murders Creek with six points should draw and the numbers are way up in the unit. Lots of public land to hunt and could pull out a big bull. Good luck

You won't draw Mt. Emily with six points so I wouldn't even try. Your choices are simple, murders creek, snake river, or northside fit the bill with that amount of points.

I'm in the Murderers Creek unit all the time, it's a decent hunt but elk numbers are down, deer numbers are WAY down and lion numbers are up. feral horse numbers are doing well though.

It's like most of the units that border it, a pretty decent hunt but not a great one. take your pick of them in the area they're all about the same and you should draw with those points.

It varies a lot, anything from open low lands and juniper hills to north slope black timber. you can find hunting easy enough for an old guy or actual sheep country, I can't think of a unit with more diversity.

Where you'l find the elk will depend on the weather, but most of the time in elk season they'll be scatered anywhere there's enough cover.

The snake can be good, however it is virtually roadless (closures) and VERY rugged. You will either pack in on horses, backpack (read 'crazy') or hunt downhill from the top of some very steep ridges. Not one of the units with high elk numbers.
