I have a friend going on a moose hunt starting Oct 1. The outfitter told him to also buy a deer tag, and to expect bucks in the 35 inch range. Is this a reasonable expectation for this unit. Neither of us have hunted here, only fished, and never have seen a deer that big in this area. Any thoughts? Thanks

35 inch....hahahah no way. The reason you haven't seen a deer that big there during your fishing trips is because there aren't any. Its a better moose area than it is a deer area.

I wouldn't EXPECT bucks in the 35 inch range anywhere..He may have misunderstood the outfitter..Probably 25 inch bucks.

Agreed, you can't expect a 35 incher anywhere. 25 inches would be a realistic size expectation for the area but even that may not be easy.

Csu7mm, Do you live in Fort Collins?
If the outfitter is telling you there is 35" deer you may want to check out his credentials. What outfitter anywhere could say that? How long did it take your friend to draw moose? Walden is loaded with moose and I personally wouldnt use an outfitter unless it is for the private land access. IS it Red Feather Outfitters? Glendevey?

Maybe he meant a 35" moose, not a buck. If any outfitter told me to EXPECT a 35" (and I don't care wher you are hunting -- Kaibab, Strip, Pauns, Sonora,) I'd want to know what he was smoking. You just can't expect deer of that size anywhere, period. Might get lucky, sure, dut don't expect it.

I am in Loveland. I will tell me friend what you all have said about the deer in that area. I am not sure how long it took him to draw. I know that Red Feather Outfitters has been mentioned, before, but I am not sure what they decided. I will try to find out. I think that they are using an outfitter for the private land access.
