Strawberry/Current Creek Deer

A close friend of mine went to his tried and proven area for deer over the weekend to open the grouse season and scout for deer. He was very disappointed in what he experienced. In his own words, the area seemed "sanitized" of any life. This is an area where he is 7 for 7 the past seven years and took a very nice 30" buck last year. It is going to be interesting to see the impact of last years early winter success. Ryan Hatch had a lot to say on this subject in the latest MM mag. Could be difficult year.

I wish I were in his shoes, I was a little late on applying for my tag & they were all sol out by the time I tried, We have seen several nice deer up around the currant creek area , last weekend my little brother shot a nice 28 inch buck right on labor day. Try to get away from any type of civilization up there , (i know, its almost impossible this time of year)

We have been out there and seen some nice deer this year so far, and we plan on hunting out there again. Last year we had some great success on the Red Creek side of the NE Unit. I've never hunted in Current Creek, is the best strategy there to go as far from the road and people that you can?

I did miss a nice 4x3 in the strawberry valley last year, Only had a quick chance to take him, but ended up shooting low from the standing position. After that we moved to Red Creek where we took 3 bucks.

Any advice you that can be shared here let me know... Thanks Happy huntn and best of luck
