I have a $795 pending charge from Utah. Looks like I drew a non res (from Washington state ) late Fishlake elk tag. I only had 5 points and did not expect to draw. With some work is there a good chance at success on a nice bull on a DIY hunt or is a guide needed. I don't really have the money for a guide but I don't want to waist a good tag. I have only shot one bull that probably does not score 200. I'm not great at scoring bulls but is a 330 bull a realistic goal on this hunt? Does anyone have any starting points or information that might be helpfull? I might be able to get one scouting trip in and come down a few days before the hunt starts. Anything will help

Thank you
Craig

Congratulations! I dont know much about the unit, but from the stories and pics I've seen you should do VERY well. Good luck and keep us posted.

The Fishlake unit holds some very good bulls. I saw one last fall that was pushing 380. The toughest part about your hunt is that it is the late hunt. A lot depends upon the weather, and how much if any snow has fallen. Scouting is tough, because the elk will be where the weather allows them to be. I would start scouting with a map and a call to the biologist for the area. He should be able to give you some areas to focus on.

I know of some areas that you should check out. PM me if you want to talk.

congrats!

Craig....I got your PM....I will give you some areas to think about. Antlerrick on here also has the late tag and I am sure I will be up there during that time...RIGHT RICK!!!...so I am sure that we can send you in some areas to give a try. I think 330 is a legitimate bull....like someone already said....A LOT will depend on the weather on that late hunt!!

CONGRATS....it will be fun!

Jason, I told Craig that maybe we can just gang up on those big stinkys... You may have to buy more property to get us all a place to camp!!!! lol....

Congratulations on a great elk tag. The Fishlake produces some great bulls. If you take the time to scout, you will get the bull of your dreams. If you got any questions send me a PM. I would also recommend High Top Outfitters if you are looking for a guided hunt. They have lots of affiliates who know the Fishlake unit. Their website is www.hightopoutfitters.com. Get ahold of them or me if you have more questions. Good luck on finding the bull you've been waiting for.
