My points weren't quite enough and my landowner didn't draw so I didn't get my late 61 tag so I bought a Unit 60 late rifle tag. Based on the maps, it looks like the 61 deer will migrate down into 60 with some weather. Did I waste my time and money or is this a good bet? Does anyone know 60?

61's deer will not migrate to 60. IF they were to, they would have to cross a river and highway then climb back up to the winter range in 60 which is very unlikley. There is plenty of winter land in 61 that they will stay on.

You do get deer migrating down from the San Juan mountains in Utah. I dont think that is a trophy unit for deer but i am not sure.

The tag is not a waste because though becasue there isa decent resident herd that is in the unit. You should have a chance at a mature buck in 60 as with all western colorado units.

Westernsky is correct in the fact that unit 61 deer will not be migrating to unit 60. But, on the bright side, there's a big ranch and other chunks of private where the deer can grow there. The deer migrate out of the La Sal mountains in UT. There's plenty of red rock country to chase deer around in and you should do okay... Good luck, Steve

I'm meeting with the guy I bought the landowner voucher from before the season to go over maps. He said he could get me access through private land in several areas which I will gladly pay. He also was excited when I told him I had horses. My partner doesn't think the horses are necessary.(too much trouble hauling them 1000 miles) Any advice on the horses? It doesn't seem like a real hunt without them and I don't have to worry where I pull the trigger when they go along.
