Colorado 12,13,23,24 or 444. Which would you do?

Fellas,
Every year I end up planning a hunt for my college buddies and myself and this year we didn't draw anything. I'm looking at the 3rd season leftover permits and have narrowed it down to these two. My question is, which one would you choose? I see that 12,13,23,24 have pretty decent success rates, but I have no idea of quality. I have heard that 444 has pretty decent quality, but a lower success rate.

I understand that both will probably be crawling with hunters, but we hunt hard and can usually get away from the crowds. We are just looking for a decent chance at a 20"-24" buck.

Any information on either of these would be welcome. Thanks in advance for any help.

All those units are pretty good and with some leg work I don't think you would have a problem getting the type of buck you described. 23 will have better public access that time of the year. 12 and 13 during that season, the bucks will be moved onto private land. 24 is pretty high country and there will likely be a lot of snow up there. I would flip a coin between 444 and 23. Good luck.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to put a call into the biologists and pick their brain a little bit as well.

I am in the same boat as you and chose Co as a back up plan after being unsuccessful other places. Never been to Co but we bought statewide EM except limited units and DM in 12,13,23,24 just by flipping a coin, and now wondering where to get the EF tag, 13 seems to be the only one left within our common EM, DM zones, all third season. In 13 it looks pretty tough with only a small portion in public land which looks to be the williams fork mountains but not sure. I will keep watching your posting since you have the same question as I do, will let you know if I find anything else out. Have a friend of a friend of a friend who guides out of Craig but have not been able to reach him yet. Have a friend of a friend who moved to Ca from Craig but cant seem to catch him to pick his brain. We are basically going blind at this point, but could be worse, already slammed some decent pigs and deer in Ca last week.
