8:30am Wednesday moring Northeastern region......

I Spot two bucks feed up a draw above me......

Hour and a half stock until I have closed the distance. I can make out one 22-23 inch buck 3 or 4 point. One 26-28 inch solid typical with points as long as my forarm.

I Sneek around the only piece of oak brush between me and the bucks. Lay down with the larger of the two in clear sight. I lay down in the sage for a steady shot. Range the distance at 151 yards. Take one last breath and squeeze the shot off. the Bucks come down the hill past me dazed and confused.

My luck holds true, a clean miss after searching for an hour for any sign that I had hit the buck.

I am still sick, and going after them again tonight.

Man, what are you doing here typing on the computer...get out there and get after 'em!

My daughter has a Central ML permit, but we're not leaving until Friday because of work and school. Good luck and hope you can tag that buck!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-28-05 AT 12:48PM (MST)[p]Look on the bright side, you could be stuck in the office like me. What sucks even more is I have to move this weekend! I'm kind of pissed. Good thing there is still a rifle season. Good luck on finding more deer. I'm sick that I'm not out there!

bess has been painting a grim picture of the NE. Are you sure he was not the Nomad buck?

Seriously, while sickening to miss one like that, this is why we call our sport hunting and not shooting. Better luck tonight. Hopefully he is not educated and disappears forever.

Just an update, I could not find the first buck that I missed but I did find 3 other really nice shooter bucks but couldn't close the deal. I have seen at least 15 bucks in the first day and a half, mostly smaller 2 and 3 points. I am really not sure how to hunt deer in such steep terain yet.

I have to thank everyone for the great advice on last weeks thread entitled "Public Lands Success". I have renewed faith in public land this year because of a few minor changes to the way I hunt.

Good luck to everyone

THANKS FOR SCARING THE LAST DECENT BUCK IN THE BASIN!!!

THE NOMAD BUCK IS SCARED SO BAD FROM THE SMOKE YOU BLOWED WE MAY NEVER SEE HIM AGAIN!!!

WAS HE RUNNING TOWARDS COLORADO???

THE ONLY bobcat SUGGESTING TO ALL N.E. REGION PERMIT HOLDERS,NOW IS THE TIME TO TRADE THE N.E. REGION TAG FOR A DIFFERENT REGION,YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME,JUST KEEP IT & FIND OUT LATER JUST ONCE YOU SHOULD OF LISTENED TO THE HARD HEADED CAT!!!

No problem...

He actually just gave me a big grin as he trotted by at 40 yards. I think he will probably wait until Nov to head to Colorado cause he heard the rumor that chick over there are easy. LMAO

I'll keep my NE tag.....

Not the only hunter round here that thinks bobcats stuffing isn't fluffy at all.

We'll all wait for the battle cry "BUCK DOWN, BUCK DOWN HARD" don't wait, go get'em.
