Just curious if anyone here has taken the three (sub)species, Rocky Mountain, Roosevelt, and Tule Elk.

I know of a guy who has been lucky enough to take a Tule Elk and a Roosevelt Elk, both of which made B&C book. I hear he's not too interested in trying to get a Rocky Mountain Elk in the book. I would think that would be the easiest of the three. I think all three in the book would be quite a feat.

I haven't, but I plan on it before I go. I've killed 2 RM Elk not book worthy though, not that, that would matter.

If Cali would allow NR to hunt Tule elk I would have.

But the only way a NR can hunt a tule in Cali is if they buy a Land owner tag or win a lottery for a tag.

Pet Peeve of mine for many years now...I want a Tule!!!!!

I have max points in Cali so if i ever get my tag I'll be headed to Oregon to get a Roosevelt. I already have a few RM.

California will let a NR draw an elk tag now but after 1 NR tag is drawn that's all.It could be a Tule,Rocky or Rosey but only one tag!Last year a fellow from Oregon drew a NW Rosey tag & got a huge bull!

I have killed all 3, the rosie on Afognak island in alaska when you could just go hunt there. I have killed several rockies a 8x8 several 6x6's and a tule in Calif,in the Owens valley which was a 6x7.

I have a friend that took a 350+ Tule (Grizzley Island) and several RMs. He doesn't seem interested in a Roosie.

Sprig, are you out there?????????

BOWUNTR also has both with a bow. Bet, not to many have the grand slam Pope and Young.

Ed, your going after a Roosevelt this year?

LAST EDITED ON May-20-09 AT 04:10PM (MST)[p]I have a planned hunt in Oregon for next year. I'll be hunting Colorado this year. Actually there are quite a few bowhunters with the bow elk (3) slam. Chuck Adams, Gary Bogner, Jack Frost... to name a few. Ever since P&Y recognized them (Tule elk) last year, you're gonna see a lot more bowhunters going after them. Ed F

What about Manitoban elk. They are a definite sub species I believe and available in Canada. I know an elk farm in Michigan that have them and they are definitely different in rack styles than any of the other three species. Much bigger bottoms and thirds.
