Anyone archery hunted Elk in these units? It used to be strictly a controlled type hunt, however Idaho is now giving out approximately 1800 type "A" tags. 1000 res and 800 non-res, I think. Anyone have any input if its worth while? Thanks

I saw they reduced the tags so your going to have to commit soon. It will help both units taking off that many tags. I like 66a because of fewer roads.

Alot of wilderness going into those two units.

Should make it a great hunt again but certainly will change what most have learned over the years.

That is a huge number of archery elk tags in these units. The area isn't really that big, and without any firearms season it means everyone will be there during the archery hunt. They have been overhunting this unit for the past few years, and trophy quality has been on a steady downward trend. The genetics are there, and if they reduce the levels to more sustainable levels it could be a good unit once again.

I have hunted these units for years. They have been over-the-counter archey for quite a while. The only new thing this year is that they have limited the amount of hunters that can get the archery tags. Based on this years tag limits it will mean maybe 300 less hunters than is the past handful of years. I don't think there will be a run on tags but a few less people would be nice. The last six years up there it has felt like there was a hunter behind every bush. They also reduced the controlled rifle tag numbers by I think about 100 tags this year. But I think there is close to 400 Bull rifle tags between the two different seasons.

this is the second or third year they have cut back
i'm glad, these units have great potential,
and already a strong heard, should just keep getting better
