first elk hunt

Well I sent in my deposit for a 2010 Utah elk hunt. I'm from WI so I don't know what to expect. Any tips on gear or physical conditioning.

What area are you looking to put in for? I would be glad to help you if you draw the San Juan unit.

I'm new to all of this. How do I read a PM? I went with a very reputable outfitter that told me I could get an OTC tag. I'm not after a 400" bull just a average 6 by would be fine by me.

why would he have to be hunting with archery gear? NR can buy OTC rifle, muzz or archery elk tags for the general hunts. The question is where is the property the guide is taking him? Is it private or not? Is this really a CWMU hunt? What part of the state? Need a little bit more info. Public land is usually crawling with other hunters and not to many "good 6's". A lot of the "good" private land ends up being CWMU. You may mention the name of the outfitter to see what, if anything, anyone here knows about him.

It is going to be a early october rifle hunt on a private ranch. I'm going with J&J outfitters. I don't yet know know where the ranch is.
