Colorado bull muzzy tags lowered again

Colorado statewide bull muzzleloading tags are getting harder to get these days. Here are the aprox. numbers for the last 3 years:

2007: 5500 tags
2008: 4200
2009: 3500

In the preference points required statistics, it still says a nonresident can draw one with 2 points, but when you add up the raw numbers, looks to me like it takes 3 points now to get one. Four years is a long time to wait for this tag! Time to seriously think about bowhunting again.

And with them making more units draw only units the amount of hunters putting in for the statewide tag will probably go up and number of tags go down. Guess it will depend some on how many points these new draw units will take to draw.

I'd like to see archery go to a draw only situation too! Too many arhcery hunters in the woods these days.

I can't agree with that, I understand why you say it but I still like the idea of having OTC tags for archery in about 1/2 the units. There are a lot of guys that just like to be out there hunting, doesn't matter what the odds are and some like to see other people, that's how friends are made(not me I like to be by my self, I always just walk the extra mile to leave 95% of the others behind). I like knowing that hunters have an oppurtunity to hunt without having to wait 2 years - lifetime or never to get an oppurtunity to hunt through drawings.

I'd settle for half the units being OTC. I remember what I think of as the glory days of bowhunting. When there were few hunters and fewer calls. And Bulls would respond to calling instead of running the other way.

How about all the units limited and limit hunters to 1/2 of present numbers. Play it right and you could go every other year, but have a lot better quality hunt.

This is the second time I put in for a cow muzzy tag and the second time I did not draw.Amazing that any unit would take more than 1 pref point for a cow?
Thinking of trying a new unit for a cow leftover first rifle ,but rifle seasons get crazy with hunters.

Im with ya Beanman. I would like to see muzzle loader and archery at leat be unit specific and have a tag quota per unit. I don't know how the DOW can manage a herd when they have no idea how many hunters are hunting each unit. Yeah they do some surveys but how accurate are they.
