Cache North Archery Limited Entry

Well, I've done it now. Drew a limited entry archery tag for the Cache North area (hunt 302) literally by mistake. Having said that, I am looking for any advice on this area. I hunted the Franklin basin in Idaho years ago as a youngster, but now I'm 55. Seems like the hills are a little steeper these days, but I can still hike with the young guys (if they don't mind waiting!!) I would appreciate any advice/guidance on the area. Definitely not looking for your honey hole; you earned that place and deserve to keep it quiet.

There is potential to get a really nice bull, your best luck will be with warm weather and a good waterhole.

Scout hard and find lots of different water to hunt and you should have fun.

Some nice bulls on the North Cache, but it's a very difficult hunt. The unit had the lowest success rate in the state last year (only 2 of 15 archery hunters connected), but some good bulls were taken. I had the late hunt and had an amazing, successful hunt. The North Cache is awesome, but probably the hardest unit in the state. Start getting in shape and be prepared to hike a lot.

Send me a Private Message or reply with your e-mail address and I'll send you an e-mail I've compiled with LOADS of good information and a Google Earth file with 100 or so placemarks for good elk places, trails, glassing spots, etc.

I'd be happy to go out scouting with you too. I'd like to spend more time in the hills this summer and get back into shape.

Hunt elk,

If you drew by accident, and was not planning on hunting archery. Turn your tag in and get your points back if possible. especially if you had a lot of points. I know of a lot of avid young die hard archers the didn't fill their tag the past few years. As mentioned by Apollosmith, the success rate is about 15%. You would have a better chance with a muzzle loader tag, a rifle tag, or applying for another unit. There are people who would give you good advise where to hunt or look. Just know the odds are against you in getting a trophy bull. You can PM me if you want. Greg

Thanks for the offer of help. I'll take all I can get. My works schedule complicates my life (I'm working on a Homeland Security Initiative) so I travel quite a bit.

Just to make the point again: I don't want your "honey hole", you found it, you deserve to keep it to yourself.

You can e-mail me at [email protected]

Thanks,

Rich
