In the Spirit of Mr. Bobcat... I waited 45 minutes until the Utah DNR website traffic slowed down enough to buy one of those Utah Unicorn Tags... but yes... I got one but somehow it felt like I was going to church... waving byeby to my $45.00 in some sort of Cosmic Critter Tithing. Probably will never see a Spike as I already Contacted UTDNR Biologist and he suspects that there will be just only two Spikes in the Barren wasteland and they probably will be sitting in some Farmers backyard where I can't shoot them the entire season.
Oh well... I still have plenty of time to drive my neighbors bonkers with the calf call practicing.
Well... being the only Disabled wacked out Hunting Lady in these parts... I do have a plan.
I got my extended Disabled Hunting tag for the SPIKEY Elk and its a week after everyone stops hunting... And I have the Extended Disabled Deer tag that is a week before the General Hunt... For that one week... I will be the only one out hunting unless I run across another Disabled Hunter... I have someone to go with me to retrieve the critters... now if I can somehow get the planets to align themselves and I can find a 30" Spike standing side by side next to a Muley Buck with a 30" spread... I can get the both with one shot ..... hehe.
Hmm wondering how that worked? See I am the retriver/bird dog for my buddy who is handicap. Only differance is he will be trying to let the air out of a Bison. NO I don't go in the bush and I don't bark. Been known to wag my tail! My back already hurts from his elk hunt 2 years ago. Did you get the PM I sent you??

When your Disabled.. you have to go where the Family goes and make the best of what you have. Oh sure.. if I could walk a little... I could go up on the Dutton hehe.
With my ongoing medical expenses I can't pay the high fee's the CWMU's charge or pay for a Guided Hunt with an Outfitter.. I have to do it on a Budget of basically the cost of the permit and gas and food.
Yes there are Greener pastures but when 100 yards might as well be a hundred miles.. I'm sure anywhere in the State would be better... I can barely muster the strength to hold the gun up some days... if I die hunting I will be in a happy place no matter how green the grass is.

well said! i think sometimes success is jus tin the chance to go hunting weather you kill or not...the kill makes it better but. it still can be a blast if you dont

My wife is disabled and when she killed her bull it was so exciting for her and fulfilling. She accomplished something that a lot of us guys don't do and did it with her disability with made it that much greater for her.
She enjoyed getting out and getting away from the house which was a joy for her. She spent over a month staying on the mountain in our camp trailer by herself. (She has been gone all alone on the mountain this summer since June 1) But then to harvest a great bull was pure icing on the cake.
Like theox said, just the chance to get out and go hunting is worth it. The kill is a bonus if it happens..
Rick Your wife has been spending alot of time on the mountain. I think she has found a cowboy ? Maybe you need to set up your trail camera a little closer to the trailer ? lol
