I feal stupid asking this, but I have allways hunted early archery season. I am just wondering when does the mule deer and whitetail rut really kick in and how long does it last in AZ? I am planning on about two weeks in January. This will be my first time durring that time of year and I wont be able to do any scouting. Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated.

Couse deer usually start before the Mulies do, usually by a week and a half up to 3 weeks. Last year it really got good for Mulies around the 5th of Jan in the central deserts. I heard it started a little earlier up north. Not sure when the Coues started last year but I remember hearing that they were going around the end of Dec. Alot of people might disagree but last year I watched the moon phases and the mulies rut followed the moon pretty closely, so you might want to watch that. It might not start getting really good until the second week of Jan this year unless they start early, if they do it'll be right around when the hunt starts.
