Colorado unit 49 Elk

Theres really nobody that wants to share any info on this area. Have any of you guys ever even hunted it before?

Haven't been in 49. I hunted across the road last year and corresponded with someone that hunted your unit. He rented horses out of Leadville everyday and spent the night in a hotel in Leadville. One of the two killed an elk but both had a blast. I think with some hard work and good luck, you could be in for a heckuva hunt. Last year the rut was late and 1st rifle got hit by a big snow storm the 2nd day of the season. Game was really on the move. Unfortunately though, I don't know any details. Sure looks like some pretty country though. Good luck. I'd get up there for a 3-4 day weekend to scout in Sept if you can swing it. I did that for my unit and it helped a ton.

A friend of mine has the same tag. he lives in Leadville so he is getting familiar with places to go. I believe he has permission to hunt or at least access through a couple properties.
It is a limited draw unit so ther wont be much competition.
Another college aquintance had that tag about 6 or 7 years ago and killed a good 6x6 (280-300 class). I have no idea where he went other than hiking a half mile or so from a trailhead hearing a bugle, seeing the bull with his cows and wacking him in short order.
Should be a good hunt

Hey Jorka I'm the guy BBright is talking about.
I have been very busy at work lately and have not been on-line
or I'd have answered you sooner. If you will PM me a way to reach you I will share what info I have on 49. It's a good unit but very rough. Later Guys. Hows it going BB?

I muzzleloader hunted it last year. We had a great time. Chased a 310-320" 6X7 around. Was so close to killing him, just didn't happen. I passed on a couple of small bulls early, also. My buddy killed an average 5X5. A fun hunt, with alot of bulls. I think the potential for a nice bull is there. Most herd bulls we saw were 5X5s and smallish 6X6s.
