Ca. roosevelt elk tag

Last year, my wife drew the northwest tag which is good everywhere in Humboldt and Del Norte counties except on the lumber company properties like Big Lagoon. We saw a nice herd bull with his cows out in the middle of the tule swamp 200 yards east of hwy 101 in Big Lagoon. Hunting in CA isn't like elk hunting everywhere else. No packing in miles and glassing pristine meadows, you just look for the local pets and whack one that makes a mistake. It's not easy, but it's not like the stuff you see on tv. We hunted hard for two days, climbing up mountains and through blowdowns hard enough that the missus was really struggling with a bad calf muscle. It took her a couple of months to recover. Ended up taking a bull that was feeding in the school yard at night and bedding in a national park by day. Ambushed him on a little piece of public in between while the commuters were going to work.

Congrats on the tag.
I've never hunted a Roosevelt but in '06 I drew a Tule tag.
Since then I've been researching the Roosevelt hunts and from what I've found, the Big Lagoon hunt is very tough, not many elk. I'm not trying to discourage, just preparing you.
That being said, I'd love to trade my points for your tag.
Good luck, hope you kill a toad of a bull.
However it turns out, post up.

They had 90% success last year, only 10 tags!
It's a jungle up there, I hunted the unit just north of it 10 years back.
Hoping to find one of last years hunters to talk with.
Thanks,
