I think I just used all the luck I had with Drawing this tag, well hopefully not all my luck, still need the bull on the ground.

I know the area and the elk a bit, but have never heard from any who have hunted this hunt.

Anyone out there have any insight on the hunt?

Thanks,

Mark

Try to focus around water. Along the Owens river (lone Pine Hunt) is where I got mine. Before light I climbed the highest hill near me and glassed till dawn. I found the herd along the river grazing like "slow elk". Hardly any stalk, maybe 30yds. The Owens valley hunts are similar, same sage and desert along the Owens River. The most impressive thing I saw while hunting Tule Elk in the Owens valley is the intense herding of these elk once spooked. They tend to herd up into a tight ball and all run together. And even more interesting is that the herd always ran to the east across the sage toward the mountains. A idea I had was to position myself about a half mile east of the river after spotting the herd and wait until someone spooked them. There are lots of drainages to hide in to make a stalk.
Good Luck.
